I saw a 6x9 hole. It looked like it could fit a 6x9. I didn't like those vifa tweets close to the windshield. Looks like a nice clean build. I should learn to weld.
ah
No on the midbass. The only reason i'd consider it is if I wanted to use the doors for midbass and that poses more problems than I want to deal with (i.e. deadening a door is a pain). The factory ones were probably the best part of the whole factory setup IMO. If I were just upgrading stuff, they would probably have been the last thing to change. But, I am competing so I have a different set of criteria to work with.
Having midbass as far forward as possible helps with depth and since I'm not confined to the door, might as well go to a full 8. If I had the money and wasn't on Team JL, I probably would have gone with a pair of 10" AE midbass up front. However I've heard the ZR800's in a couple cars and they are excellent speakers, so I chose them. Some of the JL 10's could probably be used for midbass duty, but they aren't designed for it and the ZR is, so it is a wise choice given my parameters.
We now have bass...
at the moment I don't have my fancy dual mode setup in it. time constraints for college station show mostly. I just wanted to get it in, tune on it a little bit, then go on the next step.
Once I sorted out some RCA issues, I got it setup for about 1800 watts max (out of 2000 available from the amps). Naturally it will need some toning down for sq
Well back to plan C... I figured I had a good two weeks before I was to do my scheduled windshield pull and in-dash setup, so why not give a shot at building some dash pods first. If they turn out well and don't sound horrible then I save myself some time and money. If they suck, then I learn a few things and progress as normal.
So, I took the plunge the other day...
Obviously they will get trimmed down quite a bit. Should have the baffles whipped up today and then I'll stuff them a bit and play with some angles before final glassing begins.
