Dual Router Station Build

This is my dual router station that I just finished up.

I started with a free throw away counter that I found in the local CL listings. Took the top off, threw the original doors and hardware in the trash. Cleaned, sanded and prepped the wood cabinets, added a new 1/2" thick back panel and some corner trim. Set the whole thing on four locking casters so I can move it around the shop.

Made up some new smooth doors out of MDO (not MDF), added new hardware and a new top.
Covered everything in multiple coats of white epoxy primer, one coat of white basecoat and serval coats of 2k clear coat. I kind of went overboard, but it looks nice and clean.
 
I had finished up the top including the cutouts for the Jessum lifts when I finally noticed that my local cabinet shop/plywood supplier had given me 5/8” material and not the 3/4" that I had asked (and paid) for. The top was just too thin for me so I added a sheet of 3/4” Baltic Birch. Screwed and glued the two together then added the light grey laminate.


The little yellow electrical box is a little unit that senses the router’s power and turns on the vacuum, then runs the vacuum a little bit after the router is turned off. The box is only supposed to run one router so I had to be a little “creative” on the wiring, but it is all tested and working like a charm.


I have the “off” paddles set directly at my knee height so I don’t have to fumble around a 16,000 rpm router bit. The whole unit runs through a back panel mounted (no pics of that) small fuse box with a 20A/120V GFCI connected to a 20’ long cord.


The vacuum pulls the heavier bits through the cyclone separator saving on bag changes. Hopefully this weekend I can start putting it through its paces and see if;
A) The vacuum is large enough.
B) Whether or not that I need to add gates to the bottom of the dust collectors. If I do add gates, I will probably add manual gates as only me and my buddy will be using this table.

BTW, the table is over 6' long so that I don't crowd my pieces and it is over 30" wide vs the standard 24". Another nice thing about building my own top.
 
I'd like to build a single station one of these days... hope it turns out half as nice as this!
