Most of the time at comps, I would hang out with the basshead guys. Mostly because they would outnumber the SQ at least 4 to 1, but you get to see they are regular people too. They just have a different goal in mind. I had almost as much fun at comps as GTG's.

I have no issues with bass competition. I was a bass head way back when myself and will probably do a little spl comp this season. I've talked to a few of the younger spl competitors at a couple shows and they view SQ as too hard and too expensive.

Not too expensive, it requires attention to detail and too many younger people these days have the attention span of the average fruit fly.

it certainly doesn't have to be. all the equipment I ran last year was used and it saved me a ton of money. Still, it is a perception.

as for attention to detail, I'd agree with that for the most part. However there are those SPL guys that spend hours and hours redoing ports and enclosures and tuning looking for that extra little tenth or so of a db. So some of them have some focus

To me when it comes to working out the details it takes a lot of deep thinking while laying in bed, sitting on the can, looking at what you're working on while chilling around your ride on a nice day. Then being ocd helps. Also helps not to work on your install when it's too hot or cold out. I'd rather work on it when it's blistering cold matter of fact. When I have sweat pouring off me corners get cut BIG TIME. Going from my 09 Ram to my 11 Ram with the same equipment, same tune in the headunit, and identical interior with identical install I swear my 11 always sounded better than the 09 did. Maybe it was because I did the install on the 11 in March and the 09 in June. The 11 went together QUICKLY because I already had it figured out from the build on the 09.
They might say "don't try this at home" but nothing about not trying it at your friend's house.

MECA and Arc have had a new disc finished for over a year now, I had heard a copy of it before LAST season, but they are waiting for some people to finish liner notes, artwork and a few legal issues from what I have been told. As of the end of this season it should be ready for release at CES as the Arc reference disk and the new MECA SQ disc.
