Yup, I’ll just move them to the centre of the car i think

News… imminent arrival… umik-x and a Mosconi 4/10 for mids and tweeters as a test, the zapco 150.6ap has a (very) slight hiss (I am being incredibly picky!) and I will try the direct dsp mode to see if it’s any quieter… I also have a modified genesis series 3 four channel to put in also

interested to see how the mic goes and how tuning with it works out

According to one of my buddies, direct-dsp mode is quiet but they miss the output of having the preamp enabled. Suppose it’ll be comparing helix output noise vs amplifier preamp noise.

I have the zapco gains at minimum (9v) and it dialled back in the dsp ultra also, so I think I should be ok with plenty of headroom left to play with (dsp direct is 5.6v I think, and the ultra does 8 if required so I should easily have enough voltage to get good output I think…

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

    Umik-x has arrived

tested it, worked out you can’t ground both the boards together on a metal bracket and get them to work together… good luck when the powder coat wears off the aluminium bracket supplied…

that’s sorted I got it working and will work on a tune later on today

edit… that is so easy, I have a decent workable, listenable tune in about 30 mins

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

I have gone into the window business…

I basically applied a layer of deadener to the window and surrounding metal work to seal any holes that may have been present, I then made a piece of 18mm birch to suit the shape of the metal work around the pillar, this was then fixed in three places and small wedges of wood made to fill the bigger gaps

once the wood roughly fitted to the body work I then applied fibreglass filler to the bigger hollow and all the rest of the way around except for the flat part at the bottom that sits on the deadened window ledge

once the fibreglass filler had gone off I pulled the part off and neatened the rough edges up, then I sprayed the outer surface in black primer, once that had dried I then applied polyurethane sealant to the rear edges that will touch the deadener, I then screwed it back on and effectively made a very solid enclosure that I estimate is approx 1.6-2l, but being sideways I can’t really measure it, but I will take some rough estimates and work it out, it’s approx 80mm deep as the 60mm deep drivers are nowhere near the rear glass face, and it’s approx 20x20cm cut in half… thats 1.6l and it’s not perfectly in half or square

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

Tweeters will be tested in the deepest corners of the bulkhead, I initially tested with the beryllium tweeters to double check I could roughly get the left and right of the mid to match up with the left and right of the tweeter, if they don’t match to the ear the centre won’t match with levels and ta set correctly, currently I have set the mids eq with the umik array and tweaked the midbass levels to match and blend with the subs also and make a nice house curve to approx a 6db down point of 3.2khz roughly

tomorrow begins testing tweeters and potentially widebands

i have access to micro precision 7 series 7.28mkiv, bliesma t25b-6 beryllium, sb acoustics sb19st-c0004 and a set of sb26stac, I also have hybrid audio l2se, L3se and micro precision 5.80 to try… the L3se and 5.80 are more or less an identical outside size and also in bolt pattern

i suspect widebands will produce the most pinpoint stage, but the mid tweeter combo will give a little more sparkle… but I’m almost counting on the l2se giving a nice combination of the two played from 350-20khz+

I have also fixed (more pu sealant) a piece of 12mm birch at each side of the bulkhead to give me a positive solid fixing for whatever needs to be fitted where

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

You removed a lot of the dash, which of course alone can invalidate my musing here...

But in my recent trials, I settled on an odd combo of drivers - a Dynaudio Volvo 3" dome mid pair, and Bohlender Graebner Neo3PDR planar tweeters.

I found better luck with the mids way back where the A-pillar, dash, and windshield meet, and the tweeters closer to my sail panels.

Are you also going to try swapping the mid and tweet locations, I'm curious?

I'd love to hear how it changes the image if you do.

how's width with the tweeters located next to the firewall like that?

The width is each corner of the screen on technical tracks and the stage is base of screen if not a little further… the further away the stage is the narrower the stage is naturally

so with the mids in the corners of the screen I couldnt get the tweeters aural position to align with the passenger side mids aural position due to reflections making the tweeter being outside the mid a little…
the drivers side mid was always presenting as just outside the mid, but the tweeter was always at the corner of the screen, so it was 3-4” apart when playing technical tracks…

the answer was simple… mids in the pillar panels as I have made already, and a wideband on axis in the corner of the screen… that was today’s test, an L2se in each corner, the mids in the pillar had low end in the corners of the screen, and the upper mid above 6-800hz up came from inside the corners of the screen… so here I am, I made some 500ml wideband enclosures and dropped them in the corners of the dash… this gave me the desired result! Both the pillar 12cm and widebands lined up perfectly at the passenger side driver for the left and an inch or so outside the corner of the screen for the drivers side… but they line up and fingers crossed the depth to stage will be good and depth of stage will come with tuning and them pushed up to the deepest corners of the screen are negligible, hopefully it will also reduce comb filters in the response also, I will also experiment with adding back some reflective surfaces under the drivers themselves and see if I can engineer the response to a degree and reduce eq requirements
