Hello folks! I’m a week or so away from starting the install on my new build. I’ve been acquiring the components and am presently still waiting on my subwoofer enclosure/amp rack and my A-pillar pods. Hopefully, I’ll have both this week.
The vehicle is a 2020 Ram 1500 Crew Big Horn 4x4. I originally planned to install all of this as an upgrade in my 2016 Big Horn, but sadly, the 2016 started having issues with the engine, which led to me changing trucks halfway through the planning phase. Oh well…the 2020 is a nicer foundation for the build and I’m really enjoying the amenities gained from moving up to a 5th generation Ram.
My new baby:
Front Stage:
Focal Utopia M 3-Way
TBM Tweeters (a-pillar)
3.5WM midranges (a-pillar)
6WM woofers (front door factory location)
Rear Doors:
Focal EC 165 K coaxial
These won’t be used in my competition tune, just my everyday riding around tune.
Subwoofer:
Focal E 30 KX
Amps and DSP:
JL Audio VX600/6i (tweets, midranges, and rear coaxials)
JL Audio VX400/4i (Utopia 6WMs - bridged two channel - 200 watts per channel)
JL Audio VX1000/1i (subwoofer)
Haven’t opened the amps yet.
Custom enclosure is being built by NetAudio in Wichita Falls, TX. The sub will be firing up on passenger side and the enclosure includes the amp rack on the drivers side. I’ll post some pics of the enclosure once it’s complete.
A-pillar pods are being built by MTI Acoustics in College Station, TX. They will look similar to the below, but with grey/silver trim instead of red.
I’m using a PacAmp Pro AP4 CH-41 for signal integration. Toslink to DSP. Also using the JL VXi HUB to link the three amps for tuning. Sound deadening by Sound Skins and ResoNix. I upgraded the truck’s battery to an X2Power AGM. The truck is a 5.7 eTorque, so no further electrical system upgrades should be necessary with my 2,000 watt system.
JL DRC 205 will be mounted here:
The only other upgrade so far is Flowmaster catback exhaust.
Fingers crossed, we’ll be able to start the install next week. I’m so freaking ready to get started.
