    Pioneer FH-P5000MP Gutsshots/Teardown/Restoration

I purchased a used Pioneer FH-P5000MP Double Din Head unit about a year ago to serve as the heart of my system. The unit arrived functional but far from well loved (face plate was all worn, bottons would stick, the main light was caked with grim, ect ). Well since I'm switching cars I decided to pull the radio and get to work on restoring/refurbing it.

As you can see it's got a few screws on the back that hold the heat sink on, you need to remove them first to make your life a whole lot easier when workking on the rest of the radio.

Once it's removed you just have to gentally lift up on the top cover panel to expose the cd mechanism.

(Look T that massive STK Pack, why do you even need an amp )

Next you have four screw holding the cd mechanism in place (two in the back and two in the front down at the bottom)

Then just gently lift and flip on it's side to remove the ribon cable tieing it to the main board and it's power lead. Becarefull ribon cables like to break at the mear thought of moving.

Now that the CD mechanism is gone lets remove the top half of the radio and the Tape mechanism. (You have two screws inside the chassis to remove as well as two on the sides)

now that the screws are free you have two plastic tabs on the top of the face plate to unclip.

now this is the deceptive part, it will feel like you have missed a screw or two case the module will fit comeing out. Just us a little bit of force and pull the back up first (you'll see what made this so tuff in a second)

THERE'S THE PROBLEM! The tape deck is conected to the main board through an mini ISA style conector for audio, power, and contols as apposed to a ribbon cable (so looking forward to reinserting it).
