    Near field testing

I've been struggling to get a good image so I took some wideband measurements near field to see what's going on.
Testing was done with no EQ and a 150hz xo for protection @ 90° using both a new CSL-calibrated UMIK-1 and an old stock UMIK-1 for comparison.
Results vary significantly and are far from flat/linear.

Green - Left wideband - old mic
Purple - Left wideband - new mic
Brown - Right wideband - old mic
Blue - Right wideband - new mic

    1. Wildly different response on the lows. Which is mic is more correct? I assume I'll need a third reference to decide.
    2. What the hell is going on between 800hz and 2500hz? Have I borked my widebands somehow? The fact that they're similarly bad makes me think it's something else.

    Highs- CDT Unity8 2" wideband
    Midbass - Stevens SA6
    Sub - Alpine R12

Im about to do something similar next week with 3 mics. Umik-1 that came with the dsp, Umik-1 CSL and UMIK-2 from Parts Express.
Ill report my findings when done.

    Added EMM-6 results.
All have funkiness between 800 and 2500.
I can eq most/all of it out, but I feel like the raw response should be smoother.
    Weird.

    Re: Near field testing

After adding a bunch of duct seal to deaden the pod I was able to get it looking better. Maybe coincidence? Seems like resonance would result in peaks not dips.

If the resonances are 180° out of phase you'll get cancellations like in your measurements.

    Re: Near field testing

It was suggested to me that the open-back design of my sail pods may not be helping, and that a sealed pod might behave better.
