    01 BMW SQ Silky

Disclaimer I'm a build log virgin so be gentle!!

Alright everyone so already made my first mistake. Spent a couple hours typing in the start a new post last night (trying to type in that window sucks glitchy and takes forever) and hit post but nothing this morning and all of the work was lost when I logged back in. I also didn't see the new thread. So for those who do this open word do the writing then copy paste.

Behind the build. It has been since 1990's since I had a nice build. I did a few small builds last year for people and friends. I have been auditioning amps and speakers both new and old for this build. This is my Daily Driver so its hard to have the car down long enough to do the build will be a slower process. I am on an ongoing search for the right E39M5 my favorite body style and mechanical layout. That will end up being the nice one. I have now decided that may take forever and its time to get something more respectable to enjoy in this.

I started with a temp system to judge the acoustics and factory speaker locations of the car. It was designed with the crappy three way design from the factory. Just for giggles I tested amplifying the factory speakers what a disappointment. Not unexpected.

Then temp install and it sounded pretty good for what it was
    Old school system.
    Clarion CZ702
Lanzar Opti 500 on a IDMax 12 in IB Old school Lanzar DC10 1.25 cuft sealed first.
Lanzar Opti 2200 bridged on each side OZ superman 5 Ό components

Sounded good nice after time alignment nice centered image. Suffered on image depth. Very linear great sounding vocals. The blending between Tweet-mid and sub was very nice, good deep output from the sub. Very good basic system very smooth and detailed.

    Areas of improvement.
Image drops and is affected by my normal driving position. Knee blocks the driver's door mid it screws up the image.
Needs more presence, impact and energy in the 60-120hz up front. Image layering depth wise

So on with the more “long term” build.

    Design Plans
    Source DRZ 9255

    Front end/stage decisions
    Pods 130hz and up
Front Kick Subs 8” / 130hz down to natural F3 will be higher due to the smaller enclosure size but give me the front end image and impact/snap that would pull the image back trying to get with the 15's.

I have found Oz superman (one of my favorite sounding top ends of all time) the texture on vocals is amazing 4” mids, tweets, and a set of 8” subs. The problem is the 8 needs 2-2.5
I also have some other high-end drivers I am trying they one of the few metal mid and tweets I like. They are Beryllium beefy and look great we'll see how well they work in a car.

I will use Morel Primo Image IDQS8 or IDQ 8 in the front kicks.
I plan on using IDMaxx 15 but I have 2 ID15 and 2 Lanzar DC15's. I may have a go with them for trial.

The plan is to address the image issues by adding A pillar pods including 4” mids and tweets this should raise the soundstage height as well as move the image depth from back/ top of dash to the hood and improve the layering in between. I am going to try the tweets in the factory locations as well this may help the alignment with the mids and not take up so much dash.

Lanzar Opti 4100 - Bridged into 2ch for Tweets
    Lanzar Opti 2150 - On 4” Mids
    Lanzar Opti 2500 - On 8” Mid-bass / Frt. Sub Kicks
Lanzar Opti 50C – On 15” Subs IB

One of the mid tweet options, the beryllium set.

So the goal was not to completely block the side window defrost vent. Being a daily driver that would just aggravate me for sure. Ok the E39 a pillars are old brittle and have the curtain air bag breakaway weak points that take very little to give way. Be very careful!! It's a pita. Going good for me but use a dremal wheel or something gentle to cut with.

This is my rationale/reasonable build. My M5 will be sick. Morel's Le Three way front, Ultimo 8 up front, two Ultimo 12IB in rear. 35hz down reinforcement.
