I heard one back in high school in the mid 90's-one of the installers at the local PG dealer had one in his VW Fox Coupe. I remember being super impressed with the lows that thing hit. If I'm remembering it really only went up to about 50 hz. Cool stuff though.

Yes, I own two of them.
One of them was noisy, and the other one was for parts.
At this point, I have one working but has some buzzing that needs to be worked out (they aren't really that complex to assemble), and the "parts" one has an issue with the motor core (has a rotor like a power tool motor) where one main winding lead was broken literally where it entered the winding - so that one would need to be rewound to fix that, I haven't ever pursued it since I'm not sure how they'd determine the proper wire to use, but I'm sure the pros know how to do that.

At one point in time way back in the day, when I was venturing down the path of making my own twin-motor version from scratch (Tom Danley himself hooked me up with a couple motors that were close to what ServoDrive uses), I took some pics of disassembling the "parts" one:

Unfortunately my old betteraudio.com link to the actual teardown has been offline for years...

Actually - the Internet Wayback Machine has it archived - pics and all.
    Nice: https://web.archive.org/web/20040517.../cycloneinside

Also has where I had left off the twin-motor version - which my old partner at Better Audio took over but then smoked the motors so we really never achieved full capability: https://web.archive.org/web/20050426.../servoproject/
    Oh well.

Wow, memory lane... 2002... I think...
