I think they fibbed a bit on the price there, because it's the woofers from this speaker that were used. Certainly not cheap speakers, but not $15k just for the woofers expensive.

I really like the first build in this car (from around 1995?), still with B&W drivers, but mids and tweeters on dash that were motorized to pop up when system was turned on. And 12" woofers completely hidden in kickpanels, using the front fender as enclosure space.

And when googling the name, it came right back to this site

I have this magazine, but so does this contributor apparently.

I met Earl at Steel Valley Regionals earlier this year. He told me my sub enclosure was a work of art. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I was about to completely redo it

Probably so but the article says, "B&W had not released this woofer to the public yet, but Earl somehow managed to swindle a pair for himself" He may have paid a gray market penalty to be the first person to have them. Possibly a "retail adjustment" like they do on new rare cars. More likely sensational journalism.

Henry did some great work and in many ways i thought the original system was better. The thing that hurt him at the time was the speaker pods not only motorized up out of the dash but turned to pit the driver in the sweet spot. The car was excellent from the drivers seat but poor from the passenger so scores were mediocre. It was ahead of its time.
