Thread: Should I do it?

    Should I do it?

I picked up an Alpine MRV-F300 4 channel amp and a 10" JBL sub lastnight. I wanted the amp to power a set of infinity reference 6x8" coax's in my wife's truck as well as to power a single 10" sub. The amp is rated at 75w into 2 ohms and the reference speaker are rated for 60w. She isn't the type to really crank the volume up too much so I figured is be ok. Will this set up be ok so should I power the coax's differently?

    Mike.

If it ain't broke. It soon will be!

The sub in not too sure about. It's a JBL 10" power series. I looked it up and it is rated for 18w and is 5ohm.

So the question is, is it okay to use 75 Watts RMS for 60 Watt RMS rated speakers? Yeah! You will be fine. More than fine, actually. As with anything, you just have to set the gains right. But that power differential is nothing. I have 225 Watts (at least that's what Rockford Fosgate says) going to the HAT Imagines on each side of my front stage, which I think are rated for 100 Watts a side (woofer+tweeter). No problems.

Just pulled the sub out of the enclosure it came in. It shows a rating of 18-300 watts at 5ohms

The Alpine MRV-F300 will put out 150watts when bridged so it should be ok.

    Actual resistance reads 4.6ohm.
When I took it out of the enclosure the wires were just pushed through the small holes in the speaker terminals and twisted. No solder whatsoever.
