I'm contemplating replacing my tweeters. Overall I'm pretty happy with my sound system, but if I had to improve two things, I would want a more balanced high and more pronounced midbass. I didn't do a full sound treatment w/ MLV so I am not really wanting to rush and replace the 6.5"s, but I do know more midbass is possible because my dad's Polks have better midbass (same car, probably less treatment than mine, not as nice amps either). However, I do constantly notice my highs every time I first start up music.
My highs initially seemed overly harsh with like hi-hats having an almost aggravating sound. However, now that I turned down those frequencies, I feel like the highs don't seem to balance as well with the rest of the system. My tweeters + woofers are from a JL Audio C2 650 component set. I know back when I was looking into the components, reviews were saying that the set had a very bright sound, but I didn't expect it to be this bright.
Any suggestions? Should I spend more effort tuning? Or is it worth gambling and getting some new tweeters?
