    JBL Stadium GTO20M 2" Dome Mid-range Unboxing

    Hello!

Packaged arrived today so thought I would post up a quick first impressions along with some photos.

The overall package and presentation is very good. JBL does well with providing enough accessories for mounting their speakers and this time is no different. They even included some foam to put around the edge of the speakers to help direct sound outward, similar to a mini fast-ring.

Speaker is STOUT! This little guy has some heft to him! I was really surprised when I held one in my hand. Build quality looks good. Didn't see any flaws that stood out upon initial inspection.

Cone is definitely some type of orange polymer plastic that's fused with what appears to be a fiberglass outer cone that is molded into the shape of the surround. The entire flange and speaker encasement is made up of the same fiberglass reinforced plastic that all GTO speakers seem to use. I know AudioFrog uses this too in some of their drivers. Hmmm...wonder who started that trend at JBL?

Grills that come with the speakers are actually designed with a bit of a wave-guide shape to them. I like them a lot, though don't know if my stock locations up in the dash will accommodate them.

Okay, so these are my initial impressions. Time for some photos!

Wowzers, that is one hefty looking dome! Even includes a passive crossover too, is it a passive bandpass? That would definitely make this integrate on so many levels for people. Also like how they have a decent looking grille to it as well. Could pass for quite a classy looking setup.

    Are you not entertained?!?!

The dome is stiffer than say a silk dome, but isn't rigid. There is some give to it similar to a soft dust cap on a subwoofer.

Yes, the passive is bandpass. It plugs into the larger crossover that comes with the Stadium component sets. There is a cable that links them.

I'm telling everyone that for the money, JBL is offering some quality and extremely well sounding drivers. I never would have thought my current setup would sound just as good as my beloved Altec Lansing's that I still own, but decided not to use due to their age and fragility.
