I wouldn't mix up pairs of speakers (Hertz on the left and Alpine on the right), but mixing up product lines or brands is pretty common on everything else. I'm running Morel tweets and midbass in the doors, but my dash mids are Audible Physics...rear fill is a pair of Aurasound Whispers.

I was thinking about using the Hertz Energy series ESK 165l.5 for the front components and the Diece DCX 165.3 in the rear which are their entry level, two grades down from the front.

Don't let cost / grade of model line fool you. Often lesser models of a similar family line are just as good but not advertised as much. They share much of the same tooling / technology to keep costs down. For example, I have always bought ScanSpeak Revelator drivers because I love their sound. However, I also found their much cheaper Discovery line has many of the traits I love about the Revelators for 1/3rd the cost.

My only recommendation to you. Just buy it cheap and used if you need to. But, just try it. Try everything you can. Some combo is going to rock your socks. Brand name unity will satisfy marketing departments of a certain company but perhaps not you. Feel free to mix and match. The joy is in finding that perfect combo for you. You can listen to other peoples opinions all day. But in the end it is your call.

Sorry for sounding so vague but it is the truth. You need top explore and not be afraid to switch stuff out.

I hear ya Geo. Have you had any experience with the Energy series, I haven't?

No I have not. I can't buy Hertz speakers around me so its something I haven't tried. They also tend to be more pricey than I'm willing to spend.

You're stressing this way too much.

Here's some free advice that's worth every penny you pay for it
Concentrate on setting up front stage. Learn to tune it and figure out what you like. I have yet to hear a car with rear fill that it didn't detract from stage (please note: I don't say it can't be done). Every one I've demoed had annoying cues to rear. IMO, why spend more money and do more work for something that makes it worse? (and you can always add it later)

I hear ya SublimeZ. with being on this forum it has opened up all kinds of new things to me, ideas I never even thought to consider. It's a process I'm learning, not a one and done.
