I already own one from before I started screwing around with subwoofers

I bet you lose 3 db with that thing in place. Which, IMO, is NBD so long as you tune with it in place.

(I lose 4 dB with my floor in place, and for me it's NBD since I can blow over wind noise easily enough anyways. Gain down and move on, for my car.)

    ------------

I'd still rabbet out the floor before upholstery, if I were you. Just cause.

I was just joking about the rubber mat. However, you do bring up an interesting point to me.

Here is an experiment I ran while I still had the Bose system installed. I compared sub output with the cargo deck on and off:

On (or closed) yields a big boost at 80Hz when compared to the deck off (or open). Just the OPPOSITE of what you found. I had a hard time believing this so tried the experiment a few more times. Same result. Output was boosted when the sub was tucked away below the floor. In either case I could not get rid of that pesky 60Hz null.

    Who would have thunk it...

Then this made me wonder. Is that peak at 80Hz with the deck lid closed due to the deck lid vibrating / making noise or is it real signal boost. Unfortunately I didn't think much about investigating further at the time. Now, its well after the fact.

Those are my old trusty ALPINE F1's which were re-branded ScanSpeak D2904/60000's. I evaluated maybe 12 pairs of high end small format tweeters back in 2008. These were by far my favorite. I've used nothing else since.

However, this is my last functional pair. I need to consider what's next should one bite the dust. They are getting old...

Your trunk needs a prop rod to hold up the subwoofer baffle in a way just like your hood. So you have two hands free to remove the spare tire, and to service the battery, without having to remove anything from the vehicle.

Nothing complicated like a gas strut, that's not the right design here. Just a rattle-free prop rod tucked away securely.

I was thinking about that the other day. Then I would not need to physically remove the baffle to access those goodies.

While I had the subwoofer baffle propped up I decided to add foam gasket around its lip just to measure the affects:

Taking the easy way out to hide it. Just kidding. I have color matched carpet to glue down when the time is right.

I decided to explore my new Helix ACO setup

I bought this mic stand off Amazon dirt cheap. Two for like $15 from PYRAMID

I wrapped the base in ResoNix closed cell foam so it would not gouge my interior. Come to think of it I should probably wrap the goose neck stem too:

This stand Allows me to position the mic in numerous spots near where my by head would sit.

After a few hours of screwing around with setting timing, cross-overs, speaker phase, and parametric EQ this is what I got:

It's a tad bass heavy and needs a slight boost in the upper midrange but is very pleasant to listen to.
