Thread: Help a brother help you

Re: Help a brother help you

Thanks fellas. The split space is definitely nice to have. Especially because I can leave my side a total mess without having to worry with cleaning it up for a birthday party or some of the many other kid-related "events" at my house.

Re: Help a brother help you

With the donations received recently I was able to get the Earthworks M23 measurement microphone. This provides a few things that I needed: high SPL measurement for nearfield distortion testing, excellent build quality with the ability to withstand very extreme temps and high humidity and flat response without the absolute need for a calibration file. So, once again, thank you all to those who have gone out of your way to support me. I realize it's a lot to ask to help someone you don't know but it's appreciated and I am sure the data I share will be "worth" it to you in the end.

Get an error with your link...

    try that one

the m23r looks good for mic arrays being perfectly matched to +-0.5db... I’ve been looking for a nice way to use a mic combiner and have a pair of matched mics... but expensive for a hobbyist... but if I decide to treat myself if I can’t find a pair of Dayton’s with the same serial/calibration file

Yea, if you want to have very high accuracy and resistance to ambient conditions you're gonna have to get outside of our typical comfort zone of $80-100 USB mics, unfortunately. I found this the hard way. I did a little study on the subject. Made a video, too. Just not sure when I'll have time to edit and post it.

If you want to use this for array work then I suggest the M23R. You can buy them as you go and they guarantee that you can buy them as singles from any source at any time so you can add more as you feel the need and they guarantee they'll be a matched pair.

Re: Help a brother help you

My Earthworks M23 mic arrived this morning. I've owned many mics over the years but the build quality of this one is definitely superior. I decided to go with this due to it's superbly flat organic response (even without mic cal file) compared to other electet mics as well as its wide operating range of temperature and humidity.

Thanks to all who helped donate a little bit to the cause. Without you I wouldn't have been able to purchase the mic. Still have a few more items to get to make the test setup ready to go but I'm definitely a lot further than I would have been without the help. So thanks again!

Isn't that cool!? I also love not using a mic cal file, or worrying about it!
Measure with mics, mark with chalk, cut with torch, grind to fit, sand to finish, paint to match.
Updated Justin tuning sheet (Justin and Erica tuning companion for SMAART and REW)
    Do it for them.

Re: Help a brother help you

Gonna give this one final bump before closing it down tomorrow. I think everyone who is able to help out has but just in case someone is new to the group and may be able to throw in a few bucks to help me get a better microphone for my future videos, I thought I'd bump this one last time. Thanks again, everyone. Here's a link to the latest video I created, and yea, you can tell I am in need of a good external mic because the on-board one is yucky.
