Coronavirus fears hammer markets - how far will it go?

I've known many people with small businesses and have heard plenty about barely hanging on by a thread. Sadly if they were barely hanging on before this I'm sure this is the end for them unless the govt bails them out. My mom's brothers are self-employed as painters and one is a master carpenter too and I bet if they're not feeling the burn from t his now they will soon. One of them is up to his eyeballs in work with no end in sight (good problem to have as long as you're not old and wore out like he is). I hope everyone pulls out of this financially but I know there will be many that won't

David-a lot of business owners could learn a thing or two from you. You seem to have done a lot of things right with your business.

I don't understand why some people are hell bent on convincing everyone that we are supposed to be shitting ourselves in fear and panicking like there's no tomorrow...

That's what I was thinking... They were very nice and respectful, though. It even seemed they were given an assignment they really didn't want to be doing... As soon as I said we were not open, the one cop seemed relieved and he made this check mark on the form on his clip board. They chatted with us for a few minutes and even asked if there were any problems we were having that they could help us with (security and crime related).

Sounds like good cops doing their job, even if they don't like their orders.

I have noticed that there are some noisy individuals who keep suggesting that should be happening, but I don't get that line of thought. If they had done this intentionally - sure. But I've seen no evidence of that.

You folks that constantly dis China seem to be forgetting that they're the ones who enable the standard of living we enjoy today. Err, or used to enjoy a couple weeks ago. They make almost everything we buy in the stores and deliver it far more cheaply than we could produce ourselves or buy from our other trading partners. We could certainly get by without China but we'd see our standards of living change dramatically.

The Chinese people didn't make the virus or release it, the Chinese government could have created it but they certainly did not intentionally release it in their own country.

K, but our government denied that this was an issue early on and sustained that message for far too long. I'd suspect that was done to delay and mitigate panic.

I think our governments are getting a lot right here, but the highest levels of our government brushed this off for too long.

Trump was already getting started on this stuff in January, while the Dems were trying to impeach him. Who had their priorities straight?

If it gets too bad, move to the southeast man. They have closed the beaches here but not the businesses. People here would never go for that. I know the weather in California is great but people here in the southeast have full rights without gov't interfering much. Can't say that for much of America sadly.

They need to fight the crazy ass deniers about corona virus first and foremost! I’m all for David making a living, but he’s pushing the boundary’s a bit opening when he openly admits if his store closes he can sell via the internet and by mail... I get the need to make money... but right now making money safely is far more important to lessen the impact of the virus, by staying open and potentially infecting more people it prolongs the grip the virus has, this then has a knock on effect on all Americans, and will hurt the economy more as a whole... think of the bigger picture and not just one man in a store

It's not just about me making a living for myself... I will be fine it this thing drags out for a couple years. There are 8 families that depend on my company as their sole source of income, THEY are my greatest concern atm.

Again when the government tells us to do stupid, reckless things with no plan or provision for the consequences, then FUCK THEM.

I could sell via phone and the internet, and I will do that exclusively when I need to, but for now that is Plan C. At this point my revenue is way down already...
