I was looking at the bookshelf version of those but at that price I may move up to the towers.

This is the Klipsch I am looking at

Yea, for that price the Elac towers are a no-brainer.

Agreed. Elac's are a no brainer. I was helping a co-worker last year to buy his dream HT system and the place he was auditioning had Klipsch, Paradigm, PSB etc.
Klipsch were like Erin described. They got stupid loud on Anthem MRX power mind you. Playing them full range the bottom end got wonky. so we added a paradigm X12 sub and set the high pass filter to 60hz.
Shane(my coworkers) comments: " HOLY SHIT....add to cart.

    That is my problem Julian.
With the sub the Klipsch had a life to them the ELAC's just didnt provide.
I am going to go back this weekend to give a long listen to both.

If you're talking about home theater, you are going to need a subwoofer anyway. I wouldn't run any 6.5" bookshelf in home theater application below 80hz, minimum. More like not below 100hz. I would rather have a full-range tower than a bookshelf speaker when you are getting the kind of deal the Elac's are at right now.

Do they really need a ton of power to make them work? That is the only draw back I can find.

Play around with different receivers, I found the Klipsch sounded worse on Yamaha, than with Anthem/Onkyo. Shane settled with a Yamaha(against my wishes) but at the end of the day, he couldn't tell the differences between Denon/Yamaha/Anthem. His primary concerns were musicast backwards compatibility with the portable units in his home.

I would take the reviewer's advice on the extra power. It all comes down to room size. Is the room you will be using big enough for the towers albeit smallish towers? If so, the Elac's would be the right choice. And I'm a Klipsch fan. I have some older medium size (kinda big) Klipsch towers and love them. But they are not made for smaller rooms.
