Well it can become a child, but it start out as two cells... And it is techincally a foetus until it exits the womb.
The foetus cannot survive outside the womb until after about 26-29 weeks, or something like that.
We cannot really call two cells a child. It is gradual.
It is arguably only since the 60's and 70's when women were granted an avalanche of rights through the house and senate. For Millenia before that they had a singular role.
The new roles for women is something that society is still coming to terms with.
