Thread: Tune #3

You are more than welcome to "my" curve. As mentioned, it may not work out well for you since there are so many variables, but who knows, you may find something that you do like from it. Obviously, I would adjust the sub part to your sub (at the very least). In my case, I have the 3.5" coaxial speakers firing straight up into the windshield, which is probably why the reduction in some of the mid frequencies help. Probably something to do with reflections, etc...

All right. Here is the final product. This has been flattened to 1/6 and adjusted to a curve I like a lot. It sounds amazing and has actually convinced me to take a break from tuning for a while and just enjoy the system. I really do love it!
Thank you everyone who helped out with suggestions and advice. The "painting in broad strokes" comment really hit home. I took a step back and the tones are much much better this time around. It is definitely possible to tune the soul right out of the stereo. Too fine made everything sound compressed or squeezed (if that makes sense). The 1/6 gave me great results and kept me sane.

I can't say enough good things about this forum. Lots of good advice and support from people who enjoy this hobby as much as I do.

    Cheers and Merry Christmas folks!!
Looks good, man. Nice work and enjoy it!

Question for you, why are you graphs so low volume wise? I thought at first it was the scale but I see dB there so that wasn't it. I usually am around 60-80 dB with pink noise and 80-100 dB with sweeps. Percentage wise on my volume knob is about 75% my max volume. To get as low as you are, I would have to have my volume near minimum.

You know, I have also noticed this and can't seem to figure out what is happening either. It must be my mic configuration, although there is a tonne of level lowering during tuning to get my mids and tweets to match my feeble woofer output.
The mic has never been easy to configure though, I use a Behringer cheapy mic and always seem to have a shit tonne of headroom left after configuring it. Any suggestions for improvement would be welcomed. Cheers.

Yeah, I have bumped my mic volume up in REW to 75-80%. I don't have a volume control on the mic itself, so I'm kind of limited to how much I can adjust. It could also be the sound card of my laptop, I think I read somewhere. However, my POS laptop says mic output at 100% and I'm not savvy enough to fiddle around with my sound card.

This is my pre-EQ/pre-level setting. Front 6 speakers are getting about 100 watts each, sub is getting 2500 watts. Everything is the same level and nothing gets over 48 dB. Is this normal? Like I said, the woofers need sooo much work to get flat and not bottom them out on high output (which is also confounding with under power and safe crossovers), that my sub level stays the same and the rest get leveled down and EQ'd to curve. Again is this abnormal? The finished product is a critical 6.5/10 in my opinion but an enjoyable 8/10 when just cranking the shit out of it. What do you guys make of it?

Edit: I should note that I have crossover set here. Sub 80, Woofs 80-355, Mids 365-3800, Tweets 4000. Or very close to it.

    Re: Tune #3

I would work on the crossover areas , vary slope , more smoothing ?
