    DIY home speaker projects

What are the better diy speaker designs out there both budget, over the top, and in-between? When I was starting to go down that road I couldn't help but to think some of the designs might not be as good as the creator claims and might be a crapshoot not knowing the background of some of the designers. I solely created this thread for the benefit of others. Who knows, I might go down that road again myself one day if a design really intrigues me.
They might say "don't try this at home" but nothing about not trying it at your friend's house.

I have expensive tastes. Madisound has some nice kits. I may build one of the Scan-Speak based kits in a year or so. I have built a number of George Short’s North Creek Music Revelator based kits but they are no available anymore.

A few bookmarks I have but can’t remember why. Probably in my search to expand my existing Revelator based kits if I decide to move them into my theater.

Had to go to wayback to find the details on the Visions I built.

For the high-end category, consider the Linkwitz Lab LX521:
    http://linkwitzlab.com/LX521/Supplies.htm

The open baffle design results in the widest sweet spot and best imaging I've ever experienced. They also doesn't need a subwoofer, even for movies. I have a pair of 12" flagship subs and I haven't bothered to plug them in and tune them. I also sold my center channel speaker since movies sounded much worse with it on.

The raw drivers are sold on Madisound as a kit, and they also offer a flat-pack for the wood if you want to save a little time. Almost any DSP will work, even the little Dayton one should get the job done. I've been using a Mosconi 6to8 for a while with great success. Almost any multichannel amplifier will work too. I'm using a 12 channel amp from Dayton Audio that I bought at their tent sale for cheap, with some channels bridged for the woofers.

I really enjoyed building them and from seeing lots of pictures of other builds, I love how everyone makes it their own. I chose to use cherry wood for the baffle and added matching molding to the towers, then build a tv stand with similar colors : )

Measure with mics, mark with chalk, cut with torch, grind to fit, sand to finish, paint to match.
Updated Justin tuning sheet (Justin and Erica tuning companion for SMAART and REW)
    Do it for them.

    Re: DIY home speaker projects

I'm seriously thinking of starting a DIY home system. One thing for sure is it will only happen with a beryllium tweeter. Once you hear the Focal beryllium tweeter you can't get that magical sound out of your head. It's a whole other level of sound
