So in a positive step I have put the beryllium tweeters back in, the battle of bliesma t25s and t25b has been well and truly won by the beryllium, just a cleaner sound and more detailed is why… it also seemed to clean up the imaging somehow, perhaps sharper phase due to the hard dome is why, or maybe a better freq response and therefore phase made for slightly better imaging, I genuinely don’t know the answer

i also tested impulse response and found a tweeter that I’d wired out of phase at the left amp… oops!

I’ve also been testing the new Emma 2022 tracks, they now supply a 320kbps mp3 set of files, cd quality flac and also a wav version and then a hi res wav version so I need to put a new usb 3.0 hub with a usb remote socket fitted in the dash as in competition the judge has to be able to use a proven form of the files from their usb drive ideally so the files aren’t doctored or modified in any way so it’s a level playing field

How will the judges choose tracks etc on the iPad from the USB drive? Wondered which app they would have to use on iOS. Assume they would select the tracks from files.

sorry missed this, you can use a usb hub, copy the wav files from the usb to the idevice storage and add them to a dedicated apps storage folder, after that you can then open them, I have tried it with the onkyo hi res player app and it worked ok

Todays job was moving… moving the wiring loom that runs down the kick panel and then along the sill to the rear of the car

i had previously decided it would be ok pinned to the metal work on the front edge of the kick, however the itch in me had to be scratched, so I soldered and heatshrinked 86 joints of the 43 cables and inserted 8” of extra cable in each cable… one at a time, it took me approx 2hrs bent down by the sill and was not something I’d want to do every week tedious was one word for it, but I got it all down and pinned the newly extended wiring loom down from the sill under the kick and then up the bulkhead 7-8” across next to the power cable and techflexed speaker cable routing, it worked out quite nicely in the end!

plenty of space now to make the woodwork meet the metal work, I will seal it on with pu sealent once I’m happy with it and it’s fit and finish and it’s trimmed up

I took the decision not to cut and extend the rear window washer tube and fixed that with some butyl tape, and then fixed the wiring loom with a few p clips well away from the kick area behind the carpeted area

So the kickpanels are on hold for now… the 6x9 will be an incredibly tight fit if they end up there… not sure yet, so for now I decided to do something different and attacked the dash pods…

I started on the passenger side, fibreglass, filler, ca glue and plywood strips made it a big bulbous vase… it’s not pretty… but needs must

im going to trim the pod and the a pillar tweeter mount in light grey grill cloth to blend with the grey roof liner and then make the dash in black I think…

for now it has a few parts that need attention, a bit of sanding and filling to do, and maybe get some trim on it once I’ve made the opposite side the same

The other side was started also, you can see how the shape of the door card is captured, I spaced and fixed birch ply strips with ca glue (using a single birch ply strip as a shim to space the strips away from the curved section of the door card)

last off tonight before I left I mixed up some fibre filler and smooshed it around the inside of the strips ready for the morning and trimming the birch fingers off (otherwise they’d smash off of the ca glue if I cut it back before this)
