I believe that AE markets the IB15AU as being better suited to true IB setups over the SBP15 (but I could be wrong). Should work out great

Oops… just sent payment and extra shipping for a second ib15au, I’m thinking of a twin woofer baffle and removing a single one for competition as one really should be plenty for what I require

ive also just tested more midbass, basically thrown a 3db low shelf filter on the mid with a Q=1 at 350hz and then turned the midbass and sub up 3db, this will keep the levels through the crossover good and phase relationships also, but given it more oomph and sub bass which I think it needed, basically the parts that get the bass upfront on the dash are preserved and still perfect! I may end up somewhere between old and new setting for competition, it’s all good fun, the sound definitely has more body now, and I think it’s actually enhanced the staging a little to my brain, odd how it works with levels relative to other instruments and vocals in the mix

i have plenty of headroom with the gains on the amps at 9v, the processor only giving 6v and the midbass for example wound down at 1.7db on the left and 0db on the right

So new midrange pods are in the works…

going for the tweeter above the midrange so the acoustic centres are as close as possible and the ta will be very close to 0 difference if I’m lucky… at most 6.5cm out

A test enclosure made me the widest stage I’ve had, and got me away from the reflections which collapsed the stage inwards on the passenger side…

my test enclosure was made of two 12mm mdf discs with an 8mm rebate for 6mm mdf strips to be glued into place to for a cylinder

Curious, that looks like it is encouraging a lot of reflections from the mid and upper windshield and it appears to inboard of the A-pillar a bit.
Did you ditch the prior setup, where the mids are much less off axis?
Did you try it with the tweeters on the rear side of the A-pillar (i.e., closer to the mirror/farther away from the windshield)?

It’s all about where the brain places the driver, with the old driver placement there was a lot of reflections from the screen and drivers side window, and as the driver is further away from the listening position down the length of the car the brain always put the source of the sound further away than the driver due to more right ear feedback (I’m rhd) and so the stage seemed further away

The mid is as wide as it can be and I get reflections primarily from the side window and upper screen as you say, so it hears a source of sound that’s wider, a little closer but more importantly, it’s a point source as the side Windows and screen are around the driver more so than the driver flat on the side cross firing… a more focussed left and right makes for a more focussed centre

tweeter wider doesn’t work, for the simple reason that the Emma tracks will pick the difference apart, try it… play music and just play the passenger side mid/tweeter, play both, then mute one, then swap to the other driver… of the sound jumps from one location to another that is a sure fire way to diffuse your centre, ideally you want the mid and tweeter to behave as a point source regardless of which one is playing, that way your centre will behave like a point source and be pin point accurate also, I hope this makes sense

I think it's actually more along the lines of a very basic omnidirectional setup - and at least some of the benefit.

It's been something I've marveled at for decades, starting with a high-end CES experience with the greatest imaging I've ever experienced, where your eyes are in doubt of what your ears are experiencing in space.
