So a bit of work... the Christmas break has been smashing so far! I have remade the front section of the dash... it now goes right into the screen corners and the pods fit square to its height, I can paint it black and then trim it after everything fits...
while seeing if I could rescue the old pods and use the frame again I found out that if you tap the inside corner of a windscreen it’s not so strong insurance are replacing it on the 31st
I have started to make the ceramic/beryllium pods, I am going to put them a little bit further back than the sixes to get a little bit better distance to stage, and put the tweeters on a slight tilt behind so the time alignment should be thereabouts and off axis should be similar also...
I also cut some rings for the 15cm mids and some doughnuts for the tweeters also
the inserts are flanged brass inserts for plastic, I drilled the 3mm holes out for the m3 bolts and then over drilled the rear and superglued the insert in once I had it lined up and reasonable tension on them, this worked exceedingly well
i do like the serial numbered matched pair of tweeters, it’s the most expensive tiny single drivers I’ve bought (not including subs... the clarus are that for sq I think... db drag when I won a European championship were near a grand a piece!)
So today has had more work on the passenger side pod...
I have gone into the window frame a bit with the build to smooth the transition and gove more baffle area effectively, I am undecided if this is a good thing or not... time will tell, it felt right and this is the time to build wings and shapes if there ever was one
i applied a 3mm piece of closed cell foam to the door panel to make a spacer, I then added shapes of mdf over the closed cell foam, and built up the shape that I can then fill into and over... I have a vision of the shape I am after and now need to create it, it will curve out from the dash across the corner to the door card and into the window recess, with a curve in the leading edge of the window also
the laser is used so I can have a reference of where I aimed the mid at, I know exactly where to move it and where to put it back to if it gets worse
And also add a curve and a slight dish to the inner edge, the curve will lead upto the section of a pillar trim that has been cut down to fit, it will tuck into a recess I will form at the top of the build
So this is where I ended the night... tomorrow I will attempt to get a full day on them and at least get the left side playing and see what it’s like for reflections and depth also 👍🏼
That is killer.
I really like how you are going to have them flow into the A pillar this time around.
Can't wait to see more.

Drivers side is progressing...
so integrating the shape of the pod into the car is gonna be a voyage, I am thinking of loosely following the lines of the door card... so up the swage line where my finger is, then following the loosely sketched on red line I have added to the passenger side pics... i figure I can always chop it off if needs be!
the random bit of wood was cut on a circular saw with great care! I glued a 4mm piece of wood to one end and pushed it carefully through the blade with various pushing items!
So I did a thing and took the jigsaw to the straight edge, it looks like it should work pretty well... I guessed a curve and fixed the rings in place...
Tweeter fly leads, mid fly leads soldered on, xt60 on the mids, xt30 on the tweeters, and then xt60 on the lead out wires from the pods to the down the car speaker wire sets
I have to say the driver choice didn’t disappoint, very clean midrange and the tweeters show great promise out of the box... can’t wait to time them up tomorrow and have a proper few hrs listening in work in the warmth!
And a Happy New Year to you all!
