Thread: Sexual intercorsa...

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

I went back and found the photos of your underseat build. A surprising amount of space under the seat in a small hatchback car. Anyone that has seen some of my projects knows I am not shy about cutting metal, but as you can imagine I'm not quite as chuffed at cutting out of the crossmember at least without some reinforcement.

I'll be super curious how those Satori's work out in that location. I just picked up a new car (Chrysler 300c) so I will be contemplating under seat woofers as well although one reason I bought it is that it has a door panel that lends itself to a door box as I have been doing in my last 2 vehicles.
I like IB but not super hip on everyone outside the car hearing the speakers either and not sure about the road noise/wetness part of it either. hard to experiment with, once you cut the metal out its a real pain to weld it back in and treat it properly.

I have no issue with cutting it out as long as I know I’m putting it back also, And I am no slouch with a welder, my old db drag car had an all steel enclosure made of 20mm square box with a 2mm wall as for the road/wetness aspect, I will use moisture guard and stainless mesh under the car so no issues with water getting in (moisture guard is what they use on nightclub speakers to prevent pints getting poured on speakers and damaging them, it looks a bit like fish tank filter foam) and liberally paint any cut edges with zinc primer and then black hammerite also

What do you think about road noise coming through ? I guess you will find out later. I put a true IB sub in my truck for a few drives and road noise increase was not noticeable although it was also under the back seat and I did not do extensive testing or drive on really loud pavement.

and what do you mean by "I have no issue with cutting it out as long as I know I’m putting it back also". do you just mean you will restore the metal if you sell the car ? I'd be more worried about driving it around for a length of time with very compromised cross bar. I know in the end it won't make a huge difference at least as long as you're not hooning around or get in an accident, but the structure is there for a reason. Not that the car would collapse or anything dramatic, but it could allow bend or twist in the structure over time as in "why doesn't my door close properly anymore ?" or "why did my seat rip off and send me through the windshield in this accident ?

No slouch with a welder either considering I built a '68 widebody Mustang from scratch ! Ha, car audio is such an easier, cheaper hobby !

my midbass initially had a 64mm round hole with hydrophobic moisture guard type foam over them... plus a small cut out of the floor, so I figured if I’m gonna do bigger I needed to see if I could rid myself of the feedback

so I did what every person should... cut, cut, cut... approx 12cm square which is roughly 75% of the hybrid 6x9’s sd

the difference is amazing, I’ve been listening to the car as much as the drivers previously

the results of this test means the satori 9.5” steel rings will be ordered and welded in

in other news I also have 15m rather lovely van damme silver series lo cap 55 and furutech copy locking rca plugs ready for when the boot is done and dusted and I know what lengths and runs I’ll need

Those rcas don't look great on the parts express picture but they are gorgeous in yours

I mean I am cutting steel out but then will be putting a stronger piece back in with the 10mm steel baffle and then making an ‘enclosure’ out of plate around that, hence putting the strength and more for good measure back into the structure of the car

currently it has wood as a temporary test enclosure... that enclosure will be made of structural steel soon enough, I am 43 and I don’t tend to hoon it any more, well not in a 1.4 corsa that struggles past 100mph lol, when I had my Renault Clio RS200 cup (look them up if not familiar) that was a different matter

as for road noise, as I am properly IB currently, I don’t notice anything more than no IB fitted if I’m honest I think with it being a labyrinth type setup which is well damped that will kill a bit of road noise, but it’s not the quietest car in the first place so I can’t say I’d be too worried

Good to hear, I look forward to seeing that structural box as well as measurements and listening impressions. Like I said I love the Satori big woofers in my car.

Although its a moot point to me, I picked up my new to me 2006 Chrysler 300c today and a quick glance told me there will be no woofers going into the floor. More aperiodic door boxes to build !

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

So this week has now become fit the 6” back in the dash and form new pods to exploit as much space as I can from where I am, and make it fit around the current dash if possible, so far it’s going well, if I need to I can also cut a 50mm hole so the pod can breathe into the a pillar using the screw location as a guide for the hole in both pod and metal work

but in the meantime I have made a very solid mounting for the construction which will be entirely of 12mm birch ply with 18mm rebated baffles also, one screw down into the steel on top of the cross dash brace, and one into the base of the window frame, and then one into the a pillar metal work at 45 degrees, all in all it means the pods capsule be used to tow the car around with, incredibly solid mounting as a base for the pods to not move... ever, I will also put a single layer of glass around the inside before putting the inner side on just for good measure, then I will milkshake the inside with lead shot also to make any resonances as low as possible

    amyway, enough waffle, pics incoming...

4.7 litres with 12-15mm below the baffle where the speaker sits, I wanted 4.5 as I know that works with the limited bandwidth I’m using them at

More pics and the other side is also made and in situ, not happy with the small volume... a bit resonant for me, but some stuffing may calm these a little, I have some recycled denim and also some pillow stuffing as well to try, and if all else fails I can deaden the inner layers, however I think it’s more likely a little ringing in the enclosure so some stuffing may help it calm down somewhat... fingers crossed... the enclosures are some of the most solid enclosures I’ve made

Left is a fairly good match to right, but the right I had to make it slimmer than the left to fit with the competition rules and make it up with a slightly bigger under dash chamber
