Had some fun last night... driving back with some friends from food and my mates sat in the passenger seat... “this isn’t that good as stereos go, I thought it would be much better...” so the urc.3 got wicked up and I think it blew their minds... linkin park (we are all massive fans!) at full pelt was pretty good fun all four of us singing our heads off to hybrid theory!

Gotta admit I find this amusing....hours spent carefully positioning mids, deep discussion on reflections and staging, phase and time analysis with SMAART to make sure every nuance, detail, and spatial image is maintained. All in the service of blasting Linkin' Park.

Not quite the same as determining if the bassist is right next to the piano player or 5' over, or if Ahmad's high treble piano notes sound quite the perfect tone, or if Coltrane was using an old reed during this performance.

I can admire both, it just so happened that I was in the car with some people who admired linkin park and my mate said it wasn’t so impressive, I gave him something he’d find impressive, I could have broken out one of peters playlists (pssound) or one of my demo lists, but sat elsewhere than the drivers seat it is unfortunate that they would have looked at me gone out, if I wish to blow someone’s mind with balls bouncing on my dash I can... if I want to show depth of stage I can, if with no change to settings I can hammer linkin park I’ve done a good job of setting a system up, but I can see the irony

The dash build is underway, I’m off this week and going to attempt to form some semblance of a dash and pillar enclosures

i took the frame I had in the last progress pics, neatened up the oval somewhat, then sprayed it all black and trimmed it in grill cloth, it actually surprised me how well this went and looked in the flesh, all my worries about bits poking through disappeared, I don’t know what I was worried about

the vent was remade to avoid cardboard parts and now is two pieces so I can fix the base to the heater box and then mount the intermediate section in place, I left a six mm space between the top and the intermediate part for sealing gaskets top and bottom

it’s no good without pics, but there will be far more tomorrow (I’m off until next Tuesday, so the dash is getting made fingers crossed 👍🏼

A bit more work on the pods, the top has had a tuck into The sides of the screen somewhat, and the lower region has had some added to it to meet the new hollow top section also 👍🏼 Still needs some filler work as it’s not quite perfectly square to it as yet

So rather than making more pieces of the top section I figured I ought to put the centre part into some semblance of construction so I can then make the clock side and the passenger side part to fit around the centre iPad mount in a floating style

I made a fascia plate and moulded the v into it, along with a pair of vents (with accompanying vent channel from the heater box outlet...

then made the iPad mount so I can swap between a competition iPad mini 2 16gb and a daily iPad mini 5 256gb with lots of downloaded tidal content on it

I also added several braces to give the remaining section of the top of the dash back some strength, 3 braces and a few screws into the dash support tube

I was actually confused for a moment I thought you were sinking drivers into the dash and covering the whole affair with grille cloth (I think I mistook that big round boot for a driver in one of the photos). But now I realized you are still running the pods but removed the dash solely to reduce reflections. Did you determine this primarily by listening ? Was there any measurements that reinforced your decision or did you just find it staged much better with the dash top removed ? Have to admit that's pretty hardcore, kudos man.

The tablet mount is impressive -; A bit dominant, could be a theft target, but fabrication looks great.
