    A few more pics, the ‘extension’ of the enclosure is now in place and glued, I have to t-nut the top before I fix it in place finally, I’ve cut a 4.5mm deep channel for the lip of the driver and also the cutout for the subs

    once it’s on I can then workout how the dsp will sit and sort the cable routing for that, then make the amp boards next

    i have 14” above the top of the box and a mosconi AS200.2 to fit above the dsp in the centre, plus a pro 4/10 on each side

    So the baffle mk2 with the subs closer together allows me to fit the two pro 4/10’s on either side, one will be left, one for right the DSP will be central behind the subs, I am going to show the RCA leads off a little either side of the dsp in a window of some sort, probably behind laminated glass as the van damme silver series rcas are rather sexy!

    the 3D printer will be getting a workout soon for cable management I feel

    More woodwork today… you’ll have to imagine the as200.2 in black, and a 3D printed plaque with the team details and the cars Facebook page on it where the mirror of the helix sits on the left side, I’ve put the threaded inserts in for both ‘helix’s’

    I also added a bit extra to the mdf and remade both sides in birch ply and also put a cutout behind each amp for access to the lights, I also tried a new fixing method for it, the split brass plastic inserts were not really grabbing enough for me, so I cut some 1”x2” pieces of birch, screwed through the birch amp mount, then the plastic and put the pieces of birch behind with 35mm woodscrews that made a really good fixing that was way more solid than just the brass inserts alone, I ended up adding 2 more fixings as well, the pro 4/10 have t-nuts for mounting also

    So going to an audio meet this last weekend I had to do something, so I hastily made up some leads and threw some power cables in to the least nearest build I’ve done in years… hey it’s temporary right… I’ve worked out the ae subs are soooo clean, but I have had to knock back the gains on them after heating the motors to 45degrees on a long drive and getting them a bit stinky… I knocked 3db off the sub output and it seems better I can still get them warm with excitable listening, the power ratings are for a very clean 500wrms per sub, don’t go buying these subs if you want to wake the neighbours from 1/2 a mile away…

    the good part is that with zero change to time alignment they blend sooo well… to the point where one guy who was having a demo asked why I wasn’t playing the subs result! Once I turned them down he realised they were just upfront and that’s what the aim of the game is

    so far the mosconi pro amps are excellent, and the as200.2 is also very good on the subs

    justin biebers ‘sorry’ (yes I did just say that!) has never had such a vice like grip from 1.03 in, it’s very good and fun watching the screen move

    i also tried 10hz and enjoyed the air moving past my ears, very capable subs if you want clean and plenty enough bass for 99.9999% of people! I must say I’m so tempted to whip the rear seats out and put four in

    So the new found class ab sub amp and two pro 4/10 are hammering my poor little alternator so I decided to give my power supply a boost…

    so I will now be using a 60a step up to 15.5v along side a set of lto cells and a bank of supercaps, this should give a very healthy stable voltage that the amps and dsp will be happy with

    this way I can use the factory alt with a lead acid battery and it will make an immense sq oriented power supply and hopefully will view an iritating noise I have with the bog cap bank acting as a sort of power supply filter of sorts

    cirrently the cells and caps are sat on the bench at work with a balancer attached doing it’s thing slowly

    So the time has come for me to step it up a notch, I have technically done two shows, one per season but you can only enter skilled level for two seasons, so next year I will be in master (playing with the best of the best)

    so the dsp.3 is going in favour of an ultra again…

    I might even swap the as200.2 out in favour of a pro 1/10 as well, which I did have but then the as200.2 came along…

    I am redoing the boot once more with a straight up manifold to make space each side on the boot floor for the lto, maybe even two banks… I do fancy doing something with the alternator but not the 230a I had previously, that was a bit too noisy as it had modified windings and I got some noise induced in speaker leads which wasn’t funny, although I may route the speaker leads differently to avoid the sills where the noise was picked up I think…

    no pics yet, but I am off work next weds-Sunday so watch this space

    In other news I have ordered a second hand power steering motor, these fit on the column between U.J. and wheel and have a small Hall effect sensor in that picks up steering angle, in cold weather this sensors decides it doesn’t like life and I have zero power steering, typical just as I’m buying a house so second hand it is!

    I’ve also ordered an alt from a corsa e, this happens to be a newer shape to mine and they decided to put a 140a unit on it, fingers crossed it is the same fittings, all measurements appear to be correct, there is one measurement missing from the pics, but it looks very similar… so for £25 I took a chance… fingers crossed! That should keep the lithium box a little happier, I will be maybe using a voltage switching relay to flick the step up on for the lithium cells, hopefully the 140a alt should keep it a little happier as I’ve had mixed results with big consumers and voltage sensing relays, we shall see!

    im also going to me off weds to Sunday this week and occupying the end of my mates workshop and reworking the boot to make space for lithium and caps (hidden) and the ultra plus as200.2 to be on show also and make a nice display with the rca cables as they are way too nice to hide!

    im also going to be doing a series of tuning tips in this as it seems to lack foot traffic, so those that follow along get some extra bang for buck

    first off will be one about tuning your centre and how to get time alignment bang on… shock… it does start with a tape measure, and ends in a way you can hear in a very straight forward manner and it will surprise some people how not correct their centre is, I’ve done a few cars with it, including my mates Emma expert car, I showed him and his mids were 13cm off, flicking between the two showed him how wrong it was, and he’s been tuning for years, such a simple thing and it reveals lots! That will be in the coming weeks!

    i won’t make a big thing from it as it’s a bit secretive and an edge in competition so it will remain in here but in public, but it’s oh so simple to get the focus better!

    So the remodel has begun, so far I’ve modified the seat side of the manifold to lower the step and allow me to fit the lithium more into what’s left of the wheel well that’s not occupied…

    the manifold will remain exactly the same, and I will now float the dsp over the subs, and the as200.2 will be in a window underneath the dsp plinth, I like symmetry so it just made sense to do it like this

    All mounts are now going to be fitted with threaded inserts or t-nuts as it’s being built (as the last one was regardless of being in a lower class) to the level required in EMMA master level of competition
