Can we have a moments silence please... the Dayton passed away last weekend... the alpine PDX-M6 murdered it... or perhaps the sub killed the alpine... the alpine has developed a fault and went quiet... so I thought... turns out the alpine now has 40odd volts dc on its outputs and as such has killed the Dayton, or the sub has gone to a dead short and killed the alpine, it’s a sad day as that sub is one of the most composed, lovely sounding subs I’ve ever had, blended superbly, and did everything I asked of it regardless I have nothing to lose by returning it and seeing if they will warranty it aside from a few quid for shipping... I know it stinks, but if the pdx tried to drive a dead short it would have generated some heat so I’m not surprised, it’s a chicken and egg scenario, we shall see... the worst they can say is it’s not warrantied...

thanks, I am not 100% what happened, or what’s on the outputs, however it fried a 500w rms sub in seconds so I’m presuming it was something like that and it made sense... I had read that exact post already... or the sub died and killed the amp... either way I guess I ought to power it up and test it

In other news... I have started to make use of a spare set of sb acoustics 17cm mfc drivers I got at the start of this project, they will be installed in 14l ported bookshelf’s for at home alongside some of the budget sb acoustic 19mm tweeters... to be run off a genesis 4 channel (series 3) I picked up and a helix mini dsp for timing and eq/crossover dutys along with the regulation tea making equipment also

No lie, I legit just bought those Satori 9 1/2s for my doors......how does it sound in your car? I guess I'm asking what have you found it to do well?

I don't think DumDum has installed them yet although I am sure he has some good opinions on why he chose them.
I have a set installed in aperiodic door boxes in my Cadillac and they sound really, really good. I don't have a lot of measurements of what they play down to cuz after I tune things I just don't do a lot of record keeping, but I"m moving to a newer car and building some new boxes and will be installing and tuning soon so I'll try to share. But I can say they're the best mid bass I've ever had, but of course why wouldn't a big set of almost 10's well implemented sound good ?

No lie, I legit just bought those Satori 9 1/2s for my doors......how does it sound in your car? I guess I'm asking what have you found it to do well?

As above, they aren’t in yet... that’s 2-3 weeks away as yet... I chose them based on the pedigree of the satori brand, the specs and also the fact they are likely the biggest drivers I can fit under my seats with some massaging of the floor with my MIG welder and grinder

in other news the sub was returned from whence it came, warranty got refused as I expected, however in a gesture of good will... not required as I killed it so not really warranty anyway... but they gave me 10% off another RSS390HF, they have a dedicated customer in me now

So the workshop speaker project is definitely a success...

my workshop is approx 6m wide by 14-15m long and approx 7m tall, breeze block lower 1.2m and tin top

i made the enclosures and decided to find them a home on the shelves initially... put bluntly the imaging with the drivers 3m apart at the end of the workshop sat 3m back is god damn amazing, the tonality after a shelf filter and some eq tweaking... maybe 7-8 bands per side just to knock some peaks off is very good also...

In car news, I have had a 240a alternator for ages... and some big agms that I was going to fit in the front of the car... I have now done a u turn...

yinlong LTO 40ah six cell bank and the alternator plus my super cap bank should make for a very nice stable voltage... now to get them all resting at the same voltage give or take and then put them in a series bank 🙂 tbh I may not even bother with the super caps, but as I have them it would be rude not to use them

also in the pics is the Scarlett 2i2 audio/mic interface and the ctek 25a charger I persuaded work to purchase... it may be handy for long tuning sessions also in power supply mode
