As a quick and dirty so I could drive the car I have some aluminium channel (lathered in white polyurethane sealent for easy waterproofing) fixed in place with some stainless mesh... I also have 1.5mm aluminium on its way with 10mm holes every 13mm and indeed some 12mm foam just arrived... 2m x 1m which is big enough for other places also ... they use it in nightclub speakers to stop pints getting poured down speakers

i will river the final affords up to avoid any chance of screws in tyres

ill post pics of the finished proper shields also once I’ve had them on the sheet metal bender and the car up on the ramp at work

This is the stuff I was talking about:
    https://www.moflowvents.com/pre-filt...rophobic-mesh/

If it's meant as a car intake filter screen, it must breathe. It somehow lets air through but not water.

A couple layers of this stuff sandwiched between two of your screens, and you might just have something you could drive year round without worries.

I haven't used this stuff, but it's what they are using on that IB 24" sub in that other build thread, with the Audi.

This stuff is the same stuff Peter (from ps sound ) uses in all his builds with IB, I am happy it will keep my lovely hybrids safe, it looks like middle sized fish tank filter foam

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

So had a bit of a play with all pass filters and a new passenger side mid position... very rough at the minute... I literally just superglued and fibreglassed an extension piece on the front...

the all pass phase pics were got by feeding pink noise into my workshop dsp mini and measuring the output of a single rca... the difference between in and out is the phase graph in smaart... you could not apply all pass and get these level of results without smaart imo... it makes it so easy to dial it in and get the phase sorted...

the result is the widest stage ive had on the left... and as a result I’ve got the most space around instruments I’ve ever had

also this is with zero eq above 400hz...

so pics before tweeter all pass and after... it’s obvious which is before and after...

note the dsp preset name... I think it’s apt!

Can you explain what you're getting at here ? I understand SMAART needs to compare input to output but not sure what you are describing here. You were using a workshop dsp instead of your in car dsp ? How as this hooked up ?

The workshop dsp is a helix mini in my little workshop stereo system... I just fed a signal in like you would from a source and measured the rca output phase so I could see exactly how the phase was manipulated with varying Q and frequency without car acoustics doing what it does and adding it’s bit to the phase... basically I’ve never see what an all pass does to phase in a simple laid out manner

everything I did was line level, with no processing and flat phase as a reference

Okay thanks I get it. Still need to wrap my head around the whole phase thing a bit more, couldn't quite make out what the difference in those plots but they should make more sense to me now. I do plan to play with SMAART at some point, still finishing up my latest install.

How can the average tuner account for phase? I use TA and level matching left and right sides to a house curve. My Helix V8 has phase sliders that I never touch simply because I don't know how to use them. I realize the car acts like a minimum phase environment, so I should be fairly close having everything in phase. Besides listening by ear, how should those phase sliders be used?

The car from experience is a pain in the arse to get phase/delays nice in... as for it being minimum phase? If by that it describes a system where phase is relatively linear... I think someone is having a laugh (not aimed at you I should add), all the reflections, standing waves and phase crap we have to deal with is just beyond silly... I have a 360 phase wrap in my mids at 130ish, and a 360 wrap at 200 in the same sides front sub

i would call portions of the spectrum minimum phase... but there are big chunks where I don’t consider the system minimum phase... for example where you can apply boost and it does very little aside from put extra power in for pretty much zero gain at that freq, like my 200hz wrap...

    Re: Sexual intercorsa...

So having made the pods look pretty and fit the dash I have now begun building new ones given the stage benefitting from the left side being further into the cabin, I am aiming for 7litres if I can (previous were 4.5l)

so the process has all started again I am a sucker for hard work I tell ya...

kerf cutting ply is not a happy process, the individual layers are sooooo stiff, I just cut it as close as I dared and bent it and added a generous layer of ca glue and then activater to follow
