    2015 Chevy Cruze first build

Here we go. First off, this is my first build. I've been working on it for the last 2 years or so and its really come a long ways. I started my car journey with a humble 2 way active system that has slowly evolved into this. It feels like it will never be all the way finished because I just really enjoy working on it.

It now consists of the following:

Google Nexus 7 Tablet with Timurs Kernel
    1TB portable HD
    Helix DSP.2 with HEC-USB and URC.3
    PPI Phantom 900.4
    PPI Phantom 600.2
    Taramps HD3000 2ohm
    Wavecore TW022WA04's
    Stereo Integrity M3's
    Steven's Audio MB8-2's
    Dayton Audio UM18-22's

I have done some acoustic insulation in the car such as a few CLD tiles in the trunk area and front doors. The front doors were treated with MLV and CCF until the sealed door enclosures went in. I only recently upgraded mid bass drivers and decided to vent the Steven's Audio MB8's into the doors so now they need to be redone.

I have upgraded the battery to a H7 AGM and have done the Big 3 wiring upgrade but am still on the stock alternator. Eventually, I would like to upgrade the electrical in this car so far the bigger battery, big 3, and stock alt seem to be handling it OK.

I've been spending a lot of time learning to tune and playing with the DSP. So far, tuning is one of the most fun and challenging things I've had to do. It seems like I've had a million tunes in this car but am finally starting to get to the point where I'm ready to leave it alone.

I mostly listen to metal and rock music but sometimes I like to see if I can break the trunk latch. I don't know what I would call this build. It's probably not SQ put it's definitely far from loud. Either way, I like it.

Future projects include removing old sealed door enclosures and using rings and stock door cards.

Beefing up the rear deck to eliminate resonance.

Taking the baffle back out and painting or carpeting the frame and brace.

Also, someday I'd like to tear the entire car apart and treat the entire car properly but for now it is what it is.

I also don't hope any of my pics show up in the hall of shame forum.

Dude, that is extreme! I'm getting ready to have one of those 18's in my truck.

having a Cobalt, you and claydo should get along just fine...but he's got shallow 10's in the doors and 8" subs

Thanks! It's been a lot of fun. I know the PVC end caps are cheesy and those door enclosures are FUGLY but ya gotta start somewhere.

I used to have some Peerless SLS's in the doors but the rattles were annoying so thought I would give fabricating custom enclosures a try.

I've never even used a router before I built those enclosures. I basically miscalculated the volume I was going to end up with and they ended up being .37 cubic feet which is way too small for an 8" driver so I ended up venting them.

I'm gonna go back to a more factory look like I had before but need to deaden the crap out of the doors when I do it.

    Here's a link to claydo's build log https://www.caraudiojunkies.com/show...-s-rebuild-log

Of course Photobucket's tomfoolery has things messed up, so either you'll have to have a PB to view them, or have the Photobucket Hotlink Fix plugin installed on your browser

Nice! Kinda like old school DIYMA where someone used non mainstream stuff to make something unique.

I kinda dig the door panels. If they where a closer match and had some sort of contour added to the flat section they would be even better.

Yeah they could have been cool but at some point I sort of gave up and decided I wanted to hear them instead of take the time to finish them properly.

I think it when I realized there was no way I was gonna get the .5 cubic ft. Internal volume I was aiming for.

I hadn't even built a single speaker box before these so the entire thing was a pretty good learning process. If I were to do it again they would better match the rest of interior.

Now that’s ambitious! How are you going to keep the water inside the door from getting into the MDF?

Ambitious is right. Those were a bitch. I learned a lot making them so it's not a total loss. After doing these, a normal cube shaped box should be cake.

Before the enclosures were built I had treated the door with CLD, MLV, and CCF. I am assuming the MLV is acting as a rain barrier and protecting them from water. I just made slits through it when I did the cutouts for the vents. Hopefully that will continue to keep them protected. If not, I'll rip them out and go back to using rings.

They are ugly as shit but are still functional. If I go back to rings the doors are gonna need a lot more work to keep from rattling.
