    Fancy sub box build

I'll continue this build log over here...

So, I have this sub and it's REALLY nice looking! Lol

I love a challenging project, so I want to build a very unusual box with uncommon materials and techniques... Think acrylic, aluminum, fiber glass, carbon fiber, pvc, etc..

Rough idea of what it would look like

Decided on acrylic for the baffle. I found a 1/2" thick end table on eBay and cut it in half

Polished aluminum port and a pvc sleave to hold it

Here is the box itself... I originally put this real wood veneer on it, but once I clear coated the veneer I didn't like it...

    Re: Fancy sub box build

I made these little wood tabs to hold the t-nuts that will secure the a acrylic to the box...

The box is .5" baltic birch, and it's going to get wrapped in an additional .5" - .75" of the same plywood.

All of the wiring for the LEDs is embedded in the wood

It's awesome how acrylic reacts to light, and how it travels through it!

Wow, that is something super crazy for sure! I like it! Very interesting concept to combine the acrylic and the Baltic birch, but not just the 'typical' inset panel of acrylic so many people do. And that port... a whole lotta work in this project simply for aesthetics. I can get on board with that.

Great job, man, and keep us up to date on the finished product!

Thanks a lot man! You are right, there is so much work that does nothing for functionality and is only aesthetic... There is still a lot more to come.

The recessed areas on the side will have a different treatment/finish that is still undecided, and there will be some more brushed polished aluminum elements, too.

That's how my sub grill is. I needed something functional, but I wanted something unique and stylish. It was ridiculous in terms of cost, but hey, we want what we want, right? lol
