When the Greeks discovered the americas ?

Who were the 1rst americans to see people from other parts of the world and when did it occur ?

Among the many clues of contact between ancient Europeans and Native Americans are the few pre-Columbian texts to have survived the Spanish devastation.

In a book about the origins of the Maya-Quiché people there are many interesting points. The fathers of that civilization, according to the text, were “black people, white people, people of many faces, people of many languages,” and they came from the East. “And it isn’t clear how they crossed over the sea. They crossed over as if there were no sea,” says the text.

However, researchers later decided to translate the Mayan word usually meant for “sea” as “lake.”

There are also many Mayan depictions and texts about men with beards. But Native Americans do not grow beards.

Furthermore, some artworks of the ancient Romans show pineapples, a fruit that originated in South America.
Pineapples are from south america, supposedly.

There is so much history that has been lost. Unfortunately, when you lose a war or get conquered, often times you're history texts are destroyed or rewritten.

Re: When the Greeks discovered the americas ?

As much as I'd love the hype, being Greek and all, I doubt it was indeed Greeks that first discovered the Americas. Not because they lacked the technical/navital expertise to do so (they didn't), but because:

    a) ancients were extremely tribal people (especially in this area)
    b) according to most all evidence thus far, very few black people actually inhabited Greece
    c) if it was indeed a "joint venture" by Greeks and Egyptians (also an advanced group at the time) there would be some evidence, somewhere.

In all, in the ancient greek remnants there have been traces of long voyages and different worlds, but they are mostly mythology and no evidence of an actual journey that far. Besides, they were too busy fighting potential conquerors (or each other) all the time.

    They were great sailors

There is archeological and artistic evidence of ancient Greek boxing (πύξ - pux[1] or πυγμή - pugme[2] in Αncient Greek) as early as the Minoan and Mycenaean periods. There are numerous legends about the origins of boxing in Greece. One legend holds that the heroic ruler Theseus invented a form of boxing in which two men sat face to face and beat each other with their fists until one of them was killed. In time, the boxers began to fight while standing and wearing gloves (with spikes) and wrappings on their arms below the elbows, but otherwise they fought naked.

According to the Iliad, Mycenaean warriors included boxing among their competitions honoring the fallen, though it is possible that the Homeric epics reflect later Greek culture. Boxing was among the contests held in memorial of Achilles' slain friend Patroclus, toward the end of the Trojan war.(Traditional dating: ca. 1194–1184 BC)
Reign of Alexander The Great 336–323 BC

Not much has changed since then - apart from the terminology, perhaps.
