As promised, I will post a few pictures of my 185. When I got it 7 years ago now. there was no head unit, JBL front two way speakers and standard rears. Standard fronts for this are 8", as it has got the super 10 system.
To start with I added a Kenwood dvd head unit. Along with cd changer, MD changer and Navigation unit, with the TMC add on....
Until I awoke to this on my birthday.
B'stards. The insurance company was not forthcoming with a complete payout, even though I listed it all as modifications, they claimed it was audio and only subject to a poxy amount
The head unit was taken, but the brain had been left behind, so that peed me off more than anything.
After mucho aggro, I went back to a normal head unit that I could take out. I plumped for a Kenwood KMD-PS971 minidisc header, from the bay of E. Everything else worked with it, so back in business for a little while.
Years passed and I thought I'd better get a move on and proceeded to make up an amp rack for the front and rear speakers.
The standard rears.
Box sorted out with amps test fitted.
Box in the car
Fettling with the front speakers, which were Kenwood midbass, and TBH I'd had knocking about and in hindsight should have kept them still knocking about.
Kenwoods in the front doors waiting for the crossovers
JBL's moved to the back.
I was not happy with the box and how it sounded, and due to a serious lack of time, the missus persuaded me to get it done properly by an audio shop near where I live. I spoke to the guy who was fitting my audio, and he advised me to change the fronts to a Focal component kit and give them my sub and amp. We looked at moving the Kenwoods from the front to the back as a rear fill. In the end the JBL's provided a better sound.
These were the results
As you will agree, for a basic build it's pretty good, but did you notice the plastic near the outside of the boot. Today I carpeted it, the colour is not a proper match, but it looks a lot better than plastic.
Next up, install the DAB add on, and wire to a new aerial point. Remove the old aerial, as it is electric and does not work. Make good the hole that it leaves in both the rear wing and spoiler. Get the new aerial fitted into to roof of the car.
Thats it so far. I'll update this in due course.
