Setting crossovers on an amp for mids/tweets

I need a little refresher course on amp crossovers. I'm planning a 4ch amp and Ampere Audio 6.5c component speaker install soon. For the tweeters, the provided passive crossover is at 5kHz. The amp I'm using has 3 settings - HPF, Full, and LP/BP. HPF from 50-5kHz, LPF of 50-500Hz. Where should I set everything?

I should also add that channels 1 and 2 have independent crossover settings from channels 3 and 4 - I assume I should hook up the tweeters to channels 1 and 2 and the mids to channels 3 and 4?

Sounds right, tweeters on front two, woofers on rear. Those settings on the amp, that is for each pair of channels? 1 and 2 share crossover controls, then 3 and 4 share similar adjustability?

With tweeters on 1 and 2, you may want to start with the HPF at 5kHz, then channels 3 and 4 with the LPF at 5kHz also. Either that, or use an HPF of around 80Hz, and let them roll off naturally on the high end.

Is the passive crossover bi-amp capable by chance?
    Are you not entertained?!?!

    Correct - 1 & 2 share controls, 3 & 4 do as well.

For the tweet channels, I want to set the selector switch to HPF then, and the mid channels to LP/BP, correct? Does BP imply I can set both a LPF and HPF?

The passive crossover is just a bass blocker of sorts I believe. I won't be using it.

Re: Setting crossovers on an amp for mids/tweets

On the amp you want the tweeter channels set to HPF and start with the frequency set around where the passive is at 5k. For the mid you want to use BPF which allows you to use both the HPF and LPF in concert so that you can set where it allows the mid to play up to (LPF) and where it allows the mid to play down to (HPF). I would start with the LPF around 5k as well and the HPF at 80 like Daniel said.

The Passive crossover probably has a high pass filter for the tweeters and a low pass filter for the mid, rarely does it have a high pass filter for the mid, but it may.

bandpass is both low and hi pass. I would prolly start with an 80hz hipass on the midbass. the tweeters I have no idea on. the stock passives could be 1st order xover (6db) but could be 2nd order as well. would guess the amp is 2nd order as well. if passive is 6db/octave you could safely xover at a fairly lower point and not have to worry if using 12db instead

So, set sub LPF at 80, mid HPF to 80 and LPF to 5000, tweet HPF to 5000?

How did it turn out ?

    Any choice of slope - 6 dB / 12 dB / 18 dB / 24 dB ?
