Thread: How to stoke the competitive flames.... Your input is needed...

  1. How to stoke the competitive flames.... Your input is needed...

    Two questions:

What would you as a competitor like to see in a New Soundoff Event ?
What would you as a spectator like to see in a New Soundoff Event ?

As everyone is aware... our hobby has experienced a pretty sizable drop in interest and attendance since it's peak in the 1990's and early 2000's....

What can WE do to get people interested again....?
What can WE do to retain current competitors and draw new...?
What can WE do to get people attending the shows...?

OK, I guess that's more than just two questions.... but you get the idea...

    Let's brainstorm on this...

I've never competed, so i don't know this stuff. Does money for the money round come from the sponsors, or out of the event registration fees? Or are you talking about sponsorship to draw the crowd?

In the case of college station I think it is mostly sponsors, but that is a $5000 prize purse paid out over 10 places, plus a big trophy (and not some off the shelf plastic one)

The registration pays most if not all of the judging fees. 8 judges for travel, food, lodging, etc.

Having said that, one could do a smaller money round with fewer judges and an entry fee prize pool. As it grows you could scale as needed.
