    Build Log for Coppertone/Darkness/Ben

After finally getting his hands on the Gladen 15" SQL Ben and I discussed doing a semi-stealth build... I only say that because we couldn't hide the Galden monster behind a factory panel and Ben wanted to retain his amazing current amp setup that Steve (CaptainObvious) did for him. I didn't take many pics of then enclosure build process, but if you've seen the FJ build I did, then you know how I make my enclosures.

    Steve's handy work!

I ended up cutting the floor that Steve made in or to add a hinge so the spare could be accessed. I then re-carpeted the exposed areas to hide the hinge and allow for consistent color matched carpet through out the newly installed parts. The carpet I used was just a little darker than Steve's.

It is the best sounding, out of the box (as in shipping container bob) 15" I've heard. We simply plugged it in and didn't adjust a thing from his old setup and then magic happened. It was linear and effortlessly played everything we sent its way. It blended decently with his mids, but could use a little tuning in that area. I would say that the only thing he needs besides a little tune is a lot more deadener. This thing gets down and moves some serious air. It measured larger than anticipated, it was just over 16 inches and had a cutout diameter of 14.125". Most 15's that I've dealt with are closer to 13.75-13.875" with an overall diameter of 15"-15.5". Since this seemed to be a little larger that most it explained the 2.10 cu ft sealed requirement, but also explained why it does what it does.

Lol, the pictures speak volumes as to what this subwoofer can do. Aided by the skillful hands of Dave, and you can see there was no stopping it. He is capable of doing some mad genius stuff build wise, but sadly I want my stuff to not draw any and I mean NO attention. He has not only accomplished that, but added his own flair to what would normally be considered a boring build. It of course made me sad that I wouldn't let him how hog wild on it, but I have my reasons for staying stealth. Again I can not give enough creative credit to Dave and those talented hands of his.
