Re: Shallow subs: JL 13TW5 and JL 10TW3

Wow, forgot I have heard both. It's difficult to compare them, as the 13TW5 I heard was in the optimum sealed enclosure with 500 watts, the W10GTi was in 0.75-1.0 sealed enclosures with 250-800 watts on it.

The 13TW5 is no slouch. I am constantly impressed by it's output compared to every other shallow subwoofer. JL definitely did their homework and put a checkmark in each box. Kick drum is fantastic, and the bass doesn't seem to "walk" or "fade" even when pushed to higher volumes. A lot of shallow subs I've tested had that problem. Higher volumes could really put on a strain on them (especially shallow subs with a front mount motor, mechanical noise can get downright nasty). Not the case with the JL 13TW5. It just maintains composure throughout, and keeps on jamming. One of the few shallow subs that you can actually listen to electronic or even rap music (eek!) and not be embarrassed to show it off.

Output and musical ability I would compare to the W10GTi in 0.75 sealed with 500 watts. More power than that of course, and the JBL walks off and leaves a lot of subs behind.

If given the opportunity to properly power and implement one, I would have no problem at all using a 13TW5, and highly recommend it.
    Are you not entertained?!?!

Re: Shallow subs: JL 13TW5 and JL 10TW3

Unfortunately, I haven't heard the w10GTi sub to compare. I'd say Daniel's review is pretty much in line with my feelings of the sub though, the 13TW5 is a very solid shallow mount sub and has surprisingly good output and punch. It's not quite as clean as say, the SI BM mkIV, but it also has a fair amount more output too. The only drawback for me is that it lacks the reeeally low frequency response of a sub like the mkIV. Which is surprising considering the BM mkIV is a smaller sub and in a 0.5 cube vs the JL's 1 cube. My recommendation (if you can fit it) would be to go with 2 BM mkIV's as they will be cleaner, play lower in frequency and have more output than a single JL 13TW5 while costing about the same $$.
