Following a period of active weather and bitter cold for much of the U.S. this past week, relatively tranquil weather can be expected this weekend. Precipitation will increase across the Gulf Coast and Deep South by Monday. Conditions will become increasingly unsettled across the south central
U.S. early this week as an upper trough swings through northern Mexico and
lifts into the southern Plains. Low level southerly flow ahead of the
trough will draw up an abundance of Gulf moisture...which will fuel a wide
axis of heavy rains along the western Gulf coast and across eastern Texas.
Flash flooding and a few thunderstorms will be possible across the
region...and as the upper trough edges eastward Monday and
Tuesday...precipitation will spread into the Lower Mississippi and
Tennessee Valleys.
