Mine even has a very quiet whine. If no song is playing and I rev close to 3k rpm, I'll hear it (using aftermarket HO Alt). I'd never hear it with music playing and I don't hear it idling. Alternator's are dirty, noisy, bastards. I think some noise is normal.

Sometimes you just gotta work at it until you get the alt whine silenced. I've been so traumatized by it over the years that I'll damn near have a panic attack firing up my system for the first time after any electrical changes. In my experience it can also be way more pesky with speakers of higher EMO level sensitivity. An audibly silent noise floor is worth fighting for though.

I can't stand electrical noise. Luckily I've only had it on some shitty installs I did when I was young.
