Low Volts From LOC

Have a brand new Head unit and a brand new PAC LP7-4. Spliced all of the outputs from head unit to the speaker level inputs of the loc, wired all the power and grounds up. Head unit comes on, LOC turns on, go to measure the voltage at the RCA jacks to set the gain and It’s barely making half a volt. PAC’s own manual says to target around 4, my AMP calls for 6. Even with head unit volume all the way maxed and LOC gain maxed out its making 2 volts. Any ideas on why everything is way down on power?

Which ones? Speaker level or line level?

the LOC is installed behind the head unit in the dash. Spliced the wires coming from the harness of the head unit into the loc harness.

Are you playing music or a test tone when making the measurement on the output of the LOC? What volume level on the radio? If you use music the voltage should seem low. If you use a test tone like 60hz then your multimeter will measure it more accurately. Also, what multimeter are you using?

1kHz test tone gives .03vAC but only on the rear L/R channel of LOC, 60Hz test tone gives 1.1vAC again only on rear L/R channels. Have 0 vAC to the Front channels. Checked continuity of splices, all rang out fine. Metered with Fluke 117

Try measuring voltage before the LOC for the front channels?

The LOC mentions something about a stereo gain control. Have you tried changing it? That might increase your output.

117 spec sheet says:
1.0% + 3 (DC, 45 Hz to 500 Hz); 2.0% + 3 (500 Hz to 1 kHz)

Do you get the same results with all the different sources? Page 9 of the manual says the radio has source level adjustment (SLA). You might check that.

According to a quick read the headunit has a pre out so why are you using a line out converter?

I wondered the same thing, but figured I would play along.
