I got most of my acoustical treatment from sounddeadenershowdown.com.
Starting with some leftover Dynamat Extreme and CLD tiles.

I cut a filler plate out of sheet metal and added deadener

Next came some closed cell foam (CCF). For the floor, I managed to get some thick foam runner mat from Lowe's. It was cheap because it had a messed up edge.

Future plans:
Replace the Polks with Morel MDT12 tweets, HiVi 3BN mids, and Exodus Anarchy mid-bass
Additional Soundstream DTR 4.680 amp
Rebuild the sub box
Nice build Al! How did you paint the insides of the ports?
With the blood of my adversaries :P
looks great, would love to hear it since you went active.
Dat sub...
...makes my bass bug quiver...
Thanks guys.
I found some pics of my box build.

It ain't pretty, but it's loud :D
Wahwahwewa, shit is looking nice! Kinda wish I had an Element too.
All of this talk about rebuilding systems has got me itching to get back on my project....that and the fact that one of the channels on my Soundstream DTR 4.500 went out, so now I'm down to one mid playing :banghead:
First of all, I got a package from Glenn a few days ago. Now if you've ever received anything from Glenn, you will know that it will take at least 20min to unwrap it, and this was no exception...there was a box inside of a box inside of some foam inside another box. I was starting to wonder if he had forgotten to include the amp
Attachment 1642
Deep down inside was an AudioQ 3500 amp to run my 18" AQ sub...which should be adequate :D
Add to that what I will be putting in the doors: Morel MDT-12 tweeters, HiVi B3N 3" mids, and four Exodus Anarchy mid-bass :pepper:
Attachment 1643
Also in the picture is a JL Audio M700/5 amp which I will probably use for the mids and tweets, and (not pictured) a BNIB Soundstream DTR 4.680 to run the mid-bass. I'm also considering switching to AQ/SoundQ for the rest of the amps, just depending on how Santa treats me :hmmmm:
In for this! Bout time the audio bug bit you in the ass again.
Also, lol @ the packaging. After a point I'd have just set the damn thing on fire, screw it...
Glenn should sub-contract to the guys at SSA http://www.forum-refuge.com/forum2/s...BigAl-s-Garage
Whoa mama... that setup should have some zing!
I gotz new toys too...
A couple of Sound Qubed Q4-120's

Now that's just dead sexay! I bet you get done before I do LOL
Nice, though I think I've seen those guts before. :hmmmm:
In. :)
So... when is the part where you start cutting up the car? I wanna see some carnage!
:)
I need some sunshine
Attachment 1685
I wanna see a video of that big ass sub on that big ass amp flexing that little ass car:D
Experience and expertise are two different things :neener:
Even moar stuff! Mechman 240A alternator and Pioneer AppRadio 3
Attachment 1736
You need a 240A alternator ?
I don't think that the factory 105A alt is up to the task, so if I'm going to upgrade anyway...
A small update...I've decided to get started on my tweet/mid pods, but I'm not sure how I want to aim them. The tweeters are Morel MDT-12 and the mids are HiVi B3N. I ended up coming up with an experimental setup where the tweeter and mid can be aimed independently using pieces of PVC block and caps.
I started out by cutting some pieces of PVC board and laminating 3 of them together to make a block for the tweeter (I somehow lost the pics of this step)
Next, I used my combination square to make marks on opposite sides of the PVC cap
Attachment 2019
I transferred the marks to the side, and traced the cap onto the PVC board. The marks allowed me to find center.
Attachment 2020
I then used a hole saw to cut a 2-3/4" hole for my HiVi B3N mid. Once that was done, I used regular PVC cement to glue the caps in place using the traced circle
Attachment 2022Attachment 2021
I cut the caps off the board and rough cut them into shape which left less stock for my router to remove. I love the fact that my table saw has the ability to mount my router underneath and use it as a router table. Using a flush-cutting bit, I finished the mid pod
Attachment 2023
Here are the mid pods on the left, and the laminated tweeter pods on the right.
Attachment 2018
Up next: paint and assembly...
Cool stuff! Jealous of that table saw. ;)
Looks like you've joined the dark side with the new frontstage build. Look forward to hearing it and also hearing your impressions of those SQ amps.
That's bad ass. Inexpensive, quick, effective. BAD ASS BRO. get err done!!! :-)

I didn't think anyone else knew about Hooverphonic.
