Help me choose wheels
It's time for new tires on my '18 Chevy Z-71, and I'm considering getting new wheels at the same time. I've looked thru literally hundreds of pics, and I'm pretty much decided on the Gear Alloy Manifold. I can't decide on whether to go with satin black, or gunmetal with carbon accents. What are your thoughts?
Here's the truck

Re: Help me choose wheels
Nice! While I've definitely got a "thing" for black wheels, the other option looks overly busy to me.

Re: Help me choose wheels
Satin black. No question. Black Wheels Matter.

Re: Help me choose wheels
What tires are you looking at?
-
Re: Help me choose wheels
I like the satin black personally

Re: Help me choose wheels
On second thought, as close as those rims are in shape to your factory ones why don't you just plastidip them Shadow black Hyperdip?

For $80 and an afternoon of work I recommend it.

I have a 2016 Silverado that I have run the BFG’s on, and currently have the Ridge Grapplers on, I like the Nitto’s a lot better. I only got 23,000 out of the BFG and it’s looking like I will get 35-40 from the Nittos. Oh and I am partial to the black rims.

Re: Help me choose wheels
Thanks for that, Mr Guinea Pig :nana:. That looks great! Does it have a lift, or just a leveling kit?
How do the Ridge Grapplers compare as far as road noise? I had Terra Grapplers on my Honda years ago...and while they looked great, they were loud.

Re: Help me choose wheels
I'm going to be the odd duck on this one. I say gunmetal, but I'm one of those that think the black wheel thing is so overdone.
I can't stand black wheels on the vast majority of vehicles and don't understand the draw. There isn't much or any contrast. Most of the time it just looks like black blobs under the vehicle. I've seen some that look better when they are a little dirty. Just look at internet pics. Without special lighting, you can't even see the wheel. Much less even tell what the design is.
On vehicles that look good with dark wheels, I think argent, gunmetal, etc... even dark bronze look so much better. You can actually see the wheel design when more than 10 feet away and just overall looks better.

Nitto RGs for sure! They're a great A/T tire, quiet, really nice looking and Made In USA! I did not hear any road noise difference from the factory tires, to the RGs...

Re: Help me choose wheels
Oh, and make sure you get the right side of the tire mounted to the outside... There are two different designs.
The best side, imo:

Thanks, it is just leveled with 295-70-18’s. They have been really quiet so far, maybe getting a little noisier at about 50% tread.

To my eye, the greater the disparity between wheel diameter and tire diameter, the better black wheels tend to look. Comparatively tiny wheels surrounded by enormous tires look goofy to me. Black wheels go a long way toward negating this effect.
It's a matter of proportion. Just as comparatively large wheel + tire combinations, to a limited degree, tend to look better than smaller ones; larger wheels, to a limited degree, tend to look better than smaller ones within a given tire size ...and black wheels tend to visually negate any wide disparity.

It depends on the vehicle. Street trucks look better with larger wheels and lower profile tires, but those same wheels on a 4x4 just look idiotic.

While utterly ludicrous, ^that^ actually doesn't look too bad. LOL

Now, ^this^ is absolutely ridiculous. LOL

Re: Help me choose wheels
I would advise taking a look at pictures of trucks that are the same color as yours with the color/style of wheels you are considering. Black wheels look great on some vehicles but shitty on a lot also. Mostly depends on the vehicle and color.
-
Re: Help me choose wheels
I actually prefer the gunmetal with carbon inserts. Black rims are nice but are soooo popular that even the manufacturers are using them on stock vehicles now. It's a cool look, but I like the unique style of the gunmetal. The road less traveled, so to speak.
Both are damn nice though.

Like I said in the first post, I've looked at literally hundreds of wheel and tire combinations, and I've narrowed it down to a few I like...at least stance-wise

Re: Help me choose wheels
To me, trucks don't look good with shiny or showy wheels. The only reason to own a truck should be utilitarian so wheels with bead locks or anything that actually protects the wheel itself looks nice to me.
I vote 2nd to last pic tho. That bronze looks good on subys and off road rigs
-
Re: Help me choose wheels
I looked at truck pics with your color with different rims. On your truck I'd personally go with the gunmetal since you don't really have any black trim. But only you know what you like best.
-
Re: Help me choose wheels
I'm voting for the 4th picture above... not normally a fan of bronze wheels, but think they'd look good on your truck. Otherwise, feel free to ignore me and go with Gunmetal...

Thanks for all the replies, but I've decided to take everybody's advice and toss it out the window :fear:
I've got this setup on order

Re: Help me choose wheels
Very nice! I like this design far more than either of the two original options ...though I'd like it even more if it were all black. :P

Re: Help me choose wheels
Nice, what size tire did you end up with?
-
Re: Help me choose wheels
LT265/65R18 122Q
I would like to have gone with 20's, but that would have been over $1k more for wheels and tires

That's going to be a sekzy setup for sure. Time to get those badges painted to match the wheels :eyebrows:

Or de-badge completely... ;)

Which side of the Nitto's did you choose?

Nah, it's not Mopar. I'm not embarrassed to let people know what I drive :nana:

The tires are coming in separate, but I'm going to have the manly-side facing out

Does a tank need a badge on it to identify it as a tank?!

Re: Help me choose wheels
I bet if the guy driving was also the one who paid for it, it would probably have gold treads and "Abrams" painted on the side
