Ported boxes are popular with fans of rock, who like the chest-punch of the kick drum that efficient ported subs can provide, and of rap, hip-hop, and electronic dance music, for whom the low-end reinforcement adds the resonance they crave.
N0 upper frequencies [ only matters with band music and the low frequencies >>> [ any ole music { dubstep/country/rap/hiphop/pop/1812 "0verture"/classical }].
So . . . nobody ever installed a 100 watt mono block and a subwoofer ?
There was a guy who wanted to mod a "Mark Levinson" System [ add a subwoofer to hear "Low End" } just recently !
The only thing that has made adding subwoofers to some higher end OEM stereos is the ANC systems on some cars. I added an amp & subwoofer to a 2014 Impala Limited with Bose and talked to the owner yesterday. He tells me that everything has been working fine. His only complaint is that he has less bass on FM than CD, but I'd say that's a normal occurrence. I fed the lowpass output of the Bose amp into a Pac Audio LP7-2 and then ran RCA's and turn-on from the converter to a Kicker CXA400.1 amplifier. I didn't use the amplifiers high level input and signal sensing turn-on circuit because the output of the Bose amplifier is too high for it to work properly at higher volumes.
Have always had subwoofers in my car's until recently, as I've gotten to an age where I can afford nicer cars, but they seem to come with "premium" sound system that make adding a subwoofer to them very difficult and less useful.
I first experienced this in my Escalade with Bose system. I added a sub through a local chain that I now hate passionately because they only want to make money off you, with zero honesty to everything they do. They added one from my old car that sounded amazing in it, had to do some special equipment to make it work with the factory amplified system and it just never sounded right. It missed all the extreme Lows that the exact same set up used to hit with my aftermarket deck in my old 80s Volvo. And the bass it did produce was choppy and distorted. It sounded like trash.
Then I moved onto a Lexus with Mark Levinson system, same thing, just terrible. And they charged almost $1000 to add each time. So I gave up.
