If you had a dollar for every pixel in that video, you could buy a pack of gum.
Cool story. Id like to share a bottle of good bourbon with this guy.

Honestly, this is utter crap.
How do you know?

Eduardo Casiano ~ .... in head circunference, actually concerning interspecies comparison, from that point, gotta say is just common sense. Bigger neurocranium/body mass ratio stands for wider use of it. Humans have the greatest, fortunately.
probably has never seen some animals that I have !Quote:
Brain to body mass ratio is called the Encephalization Quotient. Porpoises have the largest ratio of brain size to body weight.
Two things that really stood out for me.
Interviewer: "Is there a heaven?"
Chris: "Yes."
I: "How do we know that?"
C: "Ya don't," accompanied by a know-it-all grin.
I: "So either you believe or you don't?"
C: "It's not that simple, I happen to know there's a heaven because..."
WELL SHIT, why didn't you say that to begin with instead of trying to be all cryptic and mysterious? OOOOOHHH I know things you don't know! That shit is childish.
Secondly, the interviewer asks him about Jeopardy and he says that the people on Jeopardy have "garbage trap minds" which are incapable of deep thought. That's fucking stupid, and he is clearly trying to separate his grade of intelligence from the "Jeopardy-grade" of intelligence. He is blatantly insulting those who do well on Jeopardy because he realizes his own shortcomings in that area. If the interviewer had asked him for evidence that people who have "garbage trap minds" do not have the capability for deep thought, I would bet $100 he couldn't come up with jackshit.
This shit pisses me off. Most of you guys on this forum are smarter than that jackass. edit: that's just my opinion, of course. Maybe you guys are all dumb as a bag of hammers, but I don't think so. :)
Chris has been alive for a year or 2 ...

Parrots, memorization or regurgitatorspeople who can regurgitate from memory are not in same league as Einstein thinking of what is wrong with Newton's explanation of gravity.Quote:

Oh man...OH MAN. That is the most pathetic game show I've seen to date. If Jeopardy was akin to building a 3000ft tall skyscraper in an earthquake prone zone, 1 vs. 100 would be akin to playing with blocks. I watched the entire thing. The only question I got wrong was the "what can't you sell on eBay" question. On the other hand, I am usually completely stumped by Jeopardy, because I'm pretty damn stupid. My dad can get almost every Jeopardy question right.
Seriously, if you watch that whole video and you're impressed by his intelligence, then I don't know what to tell you. Chris Langan is an arrogant crock of bullshit.
He walked away with a quarter of a million !
Yeah he did...that's the point of these stupid shows. Are you saying that's amazing or are you saying he should have kept going?
Mildly Gifted -- 115 to 129
Moderately Gifted -- 130 to 144
Highly Gifted -- 145 to 159
Exceptionally Gifted -- 160 to 179
Profoundly Gifted -- 180
In my opinion, the only way he's gifted is that he has the ability to somehow make people think that he's a genius. Here's a link to the Mega Society wiki; apparently its not exactly a highly legitimate test, as is non-standardized, unsupervised, and there is controversy over whether it is valid at all.

Good one, so if someone doesn't say you're smart or validate you're smart then all the weirdness when they are kids , goes away.
OK
skipping grades, et cetera does not mean you are any smarter than someone else, it validates that schools are aimed at ?????
I think you misunderstand my point. I know that there are people out there with unrecognized genius, and they will die without anyone ever knowing they had extraordinary minds. However, this guy is marketing to the public the farce that he is the smartest guy in the world because he did well on an IQ test of highly questionable legitimacy. Notice that the title of your thread is "Possibly highest IQ," which implies that the most notable thing about Langan is his extremely high IQ, which is measured by the "Mega Test." If the "Mega Test" is a poor judgement of intelligence, then Langan's IQ as measured by this test is irrelevant. Why does it matter? It wouldn't, but Langan SAYS it does.
He should take a real IQ test, instead of one that's some magazine called "the most difficult IQ test ever."
I know some kids that skipped grades. There are high school students in my college because the public school system is not nearly challenging enough for them. And I've heard of junior high (6th, 7th, 8th graders) kids going to college. These kids are extremely smart. However, the fact that they skipped grades is no evidence that they are the smartest people in the world.
I knew he was smarter than most when he took the money !
I work at a casino, and we don't want people like him there !
Ah yes, I probably would have taken the money too though, that question about NC-17 movies was one I'd probably get wrong.
We like people who want it all, avarice
lol@can't buy a motorcycle helmet
He may have picked the wrong state to live in, if he likes bikes - Missouri is one of 19 states that requires all riders to wear a helmet, and some state lawmakers say that's costing the state tourism dollars.
People should wear helmets while riding motorcycles. It's dumb not to.
31 states let you choose
Yeap. People should choose to wear them, not just for themselves. For the benefit of everyone else.
Attachment 1676 Eugenics is 4 evarone
Unless someone is ugly, how does wearing a helmet benefit others?
I am not arguinh for the legitimacy of Langin's genius. But the ability to memorize and draw on a collection of trivial facts is not an indicator of higher cognitive ability.
A student's are the types that memorize the study guides and ace tests. C and B average students tend to spend more time understanding yhe overall concepts and do not do so well on tests but end up a better understanding of the material. Talk to someone that has worked human resources for a long time at a company where it matters to hire smart people. They will tell you that the C and B average students make better assets to the company.

But he didnt say "benefit their families", he said "benefit everyone else."

Helmet = less damage in case of accident = fewer medical costs. And we all pay for others' medical costs, one way or another. Is that enough a reason?
I can't believe we're actually debating the use of a helmet. I suppose some of you don't wear seatbelts when driving your cars either?
I do wear a seatbelt, cause I hate to think of my wife and kids going on without me, but I believe seat belt laws are unconstitutional. I wave the banner of liberty and if I wish to put myself in harms way without infringing on the rights of others, I should have the freedom to do so.

This is a valid argument which I cant contest. But it wouldnt be valid if we didnt live in this over insured, sue happy society thats full of litigation, red tape, and a resounding need for instant gratification from everyone.

In other words, you're describing another universe. :D Alas, we have to make do with what we have. :(
I hear ya on the liberty thing, although I think it's fair to say there are other repressed liberties far more important than this, and yet we tend to forget about them.
We live in a false world altogether.
I completely agree.
I may be talking about another universe, but its important that we dont lose the vision of the society we wish to have.

I agree with him about the "repository of garbage" view, I know multiple people who are good at trivia but don't know how to balance their checkbook. Likewise, I work with a guy in our chemical lab who is not only brilliant in chemistry, but could also teach string theory...but this same guy can't remember where he parked his car.
The only reason that Tim got into this argument is because the guy believes in God. If that topic hadn't have come up, there would have been no argument.
Werd!

Tracy Morgan says: If we descended from monkey's, how come they're still around ?
EXACTLY.
edit: Stu, say we live in a place (let's just pretend it's in another galaxy for neutrality purposes) in which you're allowed to be uninsured and are not penalized for being uninsured, but the insured pay for the uninsured because no one is refused emergency medical care if they want it. If they don't want it, they can refuse care. Say that you do not have insurance (which seems to be what you would choose) and not much money. You get into a space-bike accident. You're lying in the road with your legs broke and head trauma. However, the head trauma is not so severe that you can't make a decision about whether you will accept care or not. So the ambulance comes. What do you tell them?
"Please help me."
or
"No, I can't pay my medical bills and I don't want other people paying for my medical bills, let me die."
We have chosen-as a society-to not let the sick or hurt go without care and not let the hungry starve, as best we can. This is what we have to live with, and if you seriously have a problem with this, then there are places you can move to which do not offer such excessive luxuries as healthcare.
Not true. Actually, the fact that he believes in God is a very minor part. How he goes about defending his belief in God is a bigger part, but still only a part. There is a hell of a lot more that suggests that he is not, in fact, the smartest guy in the world. Not by a long shot.
That's actually Kat Williams and he isnt funny.
