2019 MECA/IASCA Finals Competitor Spotlights
I figured the build log section would be the most appropriate place to post these. Please move if not the case.
So this year I went into finals with a bit of a different mindset. Usually when I go, im running around talking to people and taking literally hundreds of photos that at the end of the day, don't really show off even close to what finals is really like. I figured video would be better and would do a much better job of showing others what you can expect when you go to finals whether it be to compete or hang out. The reason I did this is that when I started asking new and old friends I noticed that there was a bit of a preconceived notion about competitions and the people/cars that go to them: theyre secretive, cliquey, and overall, closed off and not something someone new should go to. Anyone whos been to a larger event can probably tell you that this is NOT the case. All you have to do is introduce yourself. That's it. I personally, used to suffer pretty badly from social anxiety, and still occasionally do so I know what it's like. I know what it's like to show up to an event without knowing anyone there and being an introvert. This is a tool to help people become familiar with the people and personalities behind the cars you hear about, and how cool, open, and friendly they can actually be.

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing these. Always love seeing how some of these builds are put together, especially since I'm doing one of my own (though, mine isn't meant for competing like these guys are doing). Lots of creative ways to pack an install in, for sure.

Nice, thanks! Never been to finals so it was really neat to see videos of owners of really nice cars explaining details of the setup and giving lots of insight vs a simple picture or walk around.

You should try going there and actually hearing those cars. I went this year largely at Skizer's recommendation (as well as that of another guy from Reddit that went the year before) and it was well worth it. I'm already intending to go next year if nothing changes. It's really enjoyable, super relaxed and it's even educational. It will however make you feel bad about how your own system performs if it doesn't compare. Which is my case. Even my "good" setup is miles away from what those cars at finals are doing. I still can't recommend it enough.

I've been to finals several times and had a blast, but I haven't made the trek to Kentucky yet. Maybe next year :D

Re: 2019 MECA/IASCA Finals Competitor Spotlights
These cars are amazing. In my mind my installs are almost as impressive, but the reality of my lack of fabrication skill set and budget (wife that doesn't get it) ...really make me feel inadequate. Some day..

Really enjoying these videos, was always curious what the competition scene was like so the "behind the scenes" shots like this are awesome. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos and post them Nick.

Re: 2019 MECA/IASCA Finals Competitor Spotlights
I'm really enjoying them too. Just showed the first two to my wife in hopes of her "understanding" more. I think I made a dent, thanks Sk1zer

Re: 2019 MECA/IASCA Finals Competitor Spotlights
Good stuff. Thanks for putting these together. :)
I also agree with finals being a great event to attend. I get that "back in the day" people were secretive and getting a demo was next to impossible. But it's not like that anymore (and hasn't been since I've been competing at Finals in 2010). Nearly all competitors are more than willing to demo their vehicles as long as they're not waiting for a judge or no one near them is being judged at the moment (some of these cars get LOUD and they don't want to mess anyone else up who might be getting judged). The key, like Nick said, is to ask. Walk up, introduce yourself and ask for a demo. And don't be afraid to ask for introductions. A lot of us know each other in the comp scene and can help you out if you want to track someone down. For example, if you know me and you want me to introduce you to someone else, just ask. Oh, and always try to bring some music of your own to demo because it's hard to guess what others might want to hear or be familiar with. Or at least have some songs that you want to hear and we most of us can stream it off Tidal, Apple Music, Amazon HD, etc.

Re: 2019 MECA/IASCA Finals Competitor Spotlights
Great videos! I really appreciate the in depth discussion about their vehicles and systems. I was there for a couple hours on Sunday and got to listen to about 3 cars but wish I could have had a chance to hear more.

Admittedly, I like to listen to the music other people already have, because I can hear stuff I wouldn't normally come across. The first Finals I remembered to bring my own music, I brought a CD...and everyone was running Sony GS9's. lol...so Day 2 I came back with a thumb drive. Now I just rip everything lossless to my computer so I can make mixes on demand. I always like Erin's selection of 80's music.

And last but certainly not least.. Natan Budiono and his very interesting setup in his Suzuki. This was one of my favorites out of everything at finals this past year. Definitely worth checking out if you ever come across Natan.

He never actually said what speakers he was using.
Really love that guy though, his passion and interest comes through the video without being overwhelming about it.

Yes he did - phenomenal job - especially seeing it in person. Ron is a terrific fella, and I heard that his car this year was even better than it was last year.
