Marv's Silverado Regular Cab build
I've been extremely busy for literally years and it's been a loooong time since I've posted on any forums but figured I'd take a little time to post here at the suggestion of HIC on my system that I put together an hour or so at a time in the middle of the night when nobody needed my attention. My goal was to keep it as simple as possible using as much gear that I already had to achieve my goals of excellent tonality with good stage height/width/depth without any serious modifications for a one seat wonder. Crazy output was not necessary as I listen at a much lower level these days but figured more cone area would allow me better impact at lower volumes so I went with the biggest sub I could fit. started with an Alpine x110-slv 10" restyle kit hoping I would not need to add a processor. It has a decent crossover section, signal delay and dual parametric eq for front/rear however I used the left front channel and right rear channel so I could have left/right eq. Speakers are an old school set of Alpine spx13 pro components bi amped and a JL 13tw5 powered by a JL xd700/5. I know some are already thinking what the heck is he doing trying to mate 5 1/4's to a 13.5" sub?! Well a couple of very important things I learned about car audio from you brainiacs over the years is that getting phase and levels correct is critical and by experimenting outside the box you may find stuff that defies conventional wisdom can actually work well (not that it's the end all in terms of what it sounds like to me but I won a couple of IASCA trophies using 5 1/4's in a 2 way front stage and had a judge swear I had a bigger midbass hidden somewhere in my El Camino!). What I learned from my experimenting was that removing that lower bass from the mids "cleaned up" the midrange a bit and I was still able to get up front bass with extremely snappy mid bass once the phase/levels are dialed in (in this system mids hp at 100hz and sub lp at 80hz worked well to reach my ideal acoustic crossover point). This is my truck and I'll post pics of the system throughout the evening as I get a chance to take a break (just moved and trying to get the shop set up)

Re: Marv's Silverado Regular Cab build
For the doors I used Metra adapters wrapped in Raammat, a Baltic birch mounting ring and packed the inside with non hardening modeling clay. To seal the adapter to the door frame I used rubber window seal and to mate it up to the door panel I used 2 types of foam weatherstripping to get the correct thickness. I used Soundskins mat with foam for the outer skin and Raammat on the inner frame (the reason you don't see the Raammat is that I put it on the back side of the inner frame so I could keep the factory vapor barrier.

I saw many guys stating it was a pain to get the power wire through the firewall wall so I ran it under the truck and used a waterproof grommet through one of the plugs on the floor that was right behind the jack.

We had a very enjoyable phone conversation about attending one of your bbqs. Still regret not being able to make that happen.

Re: Marv's Silverado Regular Cab build
I used Anderson Powerpole quick connectors to make it easier to install the amp which is mounted inside the lower compartment of the jump seat and made wire organizers from zip ties

Found this slick little kit to make factory looking connections on all the wires.

Re: Marv's Silverado Regular Cab build
Stage height is ok, width and depth are excellent with tweeters in the stock dash location (surprisingly much better than I thought they would be) however tonality is not quite as good as I remember or Im just more finicky so I am going to replace everything except the sub. I already removed the Alpine headunit to reinstall the factory headunit and will either add a dsp or amp/dsp combo. Nasty is sending me some of the Mercury drivers to try out and if I don't like those I may go back to the 15M Revelators and Illuminator ring radiators or try the ARC Reference series drivers I have coming in trade for enclosure work I did for the local shop. I'm also going to move the tweeters to the a-pillars and leave the option open to go 3 way up front.

Before i sent my mercurys off. The tweeter in the dash wasnt for me the mid in the dash was ok but there was a bit of beaming. As i moved my head closer and sound was much better. But as long as you have the tweeters in the a pillar it will be nice (in my opinion)

The RS speaker line up is the new audiophile upgrade speaker line designed specifically for todays reference DSP driven active multi-channel audio system.
Designing new a speaker is no easy task. Designing an entire series of speakers with the intent of redefining the reference for clarity and detail is even harder.
RS Series come in 3 inch , 4 inch , and 6 inch platforms accompanied by an audiophile RS 1.0 tweeter .

Never got to meet you, Marv, but I won a Bit One some years ago in a raffle to fund one of your BBQ's on DIYMA.
Good to see you make an appearance.

Thanks for the welcome Jay and sweet that you won that! Between online and at the BBQ raffles (several companies showed up at the BBQ with even more gear!) we gave away over 20k retail in gear and drag is I didn't get an opportunity to win any since i was the host!

Mercuy components and tweeter pods from ToNasty showed up. Build quality is impressive and if they sound as good as they look I'll really be impressed!

Didnt work out quite as planned. The pods fit the pillars perfectly however I could not get the pillar back in as the bottom of the pod hit the dash so I trimmed them off since I'm just using chambered tweeters. Once I got the pillar to go in I found the pods are not aimed as stated (6" in front of headunit at center and slightly upward) rather they are actually pointed at the top center of the headunit and slightly downward. I'm going to send the pics to the maker to see what he says and will report back.

Ordered a set of carpeted floor mats and they sent me a set for a 4 door truck. No problem, turns out a little Velcro and some zip ties will make these perfect under dash panels. :)

Re: Marv's Silverado Regular Cab build
The maker of the speaker pods said these may be an earlier design that changed however no reply beyond that so I'm gonna have to reserve judgment until I get the new version if in fact that happens. Meantime I'm just gonna use my Japanese version Alpine DLX-F30T ring radiators with their surface mount pods on top of the dash.

・It is 3.0cm component toe eater, DLX-F30T of Alpine.
・I adopt coexistence "異径 dual voice coil" structure by the early start at the high level and wide middle level range reproduction. フラッグシップモデルにふさわしくリング振動板を常に安定して再生するバックキャビティ構造などソフトドー ムの自然なしなやかさと、ホーンツィーターの応答性をあわせ持った革新的な構造のツィーターとなっています 。
・"The aluminum Lunt spacer" which enables certain installation. I fit the body suddenly and play a role as the stable base. The slant installation at the time of the setup is enabled, too.
・The back cavity structure that can keep a fixed atmospheric pressure of the rear of the vibration board.
・Maximum input 120W, rating input 40W.
Specifications
