Re: Table top jigsaw mount
I think I see where this is going...and I totally can’t wait to see it! Rock on, brother!
Re: Table top jigsaw mount
Yeah, cool idea!
Color-coordinated equipment?

Yes sir, my OCD isn't getting any better...

Very nice! Have you tried it out yet?

Thanks! Not yet, I just glued the joints today, so I want them to dry and cure before I stress them... I still want to sand the edges a little, fill some holes and then paint it black. I really like how stainless steel looks against flat black paint.
It's supposed to match this guy:

Nice! Did you make that too?

Yes, I made that last year, here's the build thread, Lol

Re: Table top jigsaw mount
I had a similar setup back in the early 90's, somebody made a metal plate with recessed screws to hold a jigsaw from underneath. It worked out great. The only problem I see with using 1/2" plywood as a base is you lose 1/2" of blade stroke. You might consider doing aluminum plate or phenolic plastic instead.

I used 3/4" plywood, but recessed the saw by 1/2" so there is about a 1/4" thickness including the stainless steel top.

Thanks man! I get tons of use out of that thing!
Re: Table top jigsaw mount
I'm thinking about mounting an on/off switch... Do you guys know of a small one??
The one's I'm seeing for routers are kinda, like this:

Re: Table top jigsaw mount
There are a few smaller options at this site:
ToolOrbit - Switches

Re: Table top jigsaw mount
That is going to work out perfectly. I use the heck out of that Rockwell Bladerunner X2 - almost as much as the old miter saw!

I remember that you have that... I wanted to get one, but I also wanted to make my own version. Obviously, the benefits with this set up, is there are no size restrictions. Also, the blade should pull a majority of the dust down and the jigsaw has an attachment for my shopvac. I still haven't used it, though, so all of this is only theory for now! Lol
Re: Table top jigsaw mount
First off - that thing is sexy as hell. The construction looks great. And that stainless for the top - I love it.
I have a Rigid table saw in my own single car garage (that the wifey parks in - so has to be neat  ) that's my full-size table saw, and I love being able to roll it out into the garage or driveway where I can just make a mess.
In my basement workshop (where I have a dust collection system), I have a small, almost antique Delta table saw - I put that one on a roller base like yours, and tried to make a router table with a perforated top used pegboard for the perforations) and a vacuum chamber beneath, to both suck dust and create a mild holding effect for routed pieces. I had also embedded a circle template Even with bracing underneath the top wasn't quite good or flat enough though -
Now you have me eyeballing my big router table in the garage. I could take what I learned from the basement router table attempt and do a better one on that larger table saw.
I'll take a pic later if I get a chance.
I'm curious - what are you going to use an upside-down jigsaw for? Is that in substitute for a bandsaw or a detail sander?
I'm just wondering - if you really want that "perfect vertical" that a bandsaw can achieve, but don't have a bandsaw - what if you were to rig up something to hold the blade, above the work surface? Might require extra long blades, but those exist. Just trying to think of ways to improve an impressive looking build, to get the results of whatever you are working on to come out as well as your build here!
I'll take a pic later of the bandsaw piece I'm referring to.

Thanks!!
My goal is to make cleaner cuts with a jigsaw by having it function more like a bandsaw (moving the wood rather than the saw). The other problem I have with jigsaw cuts is sawdust making it hard to see the cut line. So with the jigsaw upside down, I am hoping most of the sawdust is pulled down via the suction of the shopvac attached to the jigsaw AND the direction the blade cuts now being reversed.

Re: Table top jigsaw mount
This is the mechanism that keeps the bandsaw blade straight. I'm thinking it would be tough to replicate with a jigsaw, since you already have limited length of the blade, factoring in the stroke.
But I can think of a passive way to ensure perfect vertical:
If you buy a laser pointer (you'll probably need to disassemble it, if not to mount it, to replace the switch with one that's not momentary) you could suspend it so it points right down perfectly on the tip of the blade.
When cutting curves, if the blade flexes, you'd see the blade move away from the laser pointer dot and you'd know to slow down or adjust.
Just an idea.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...073e18a5d4.jpg

Re: Table top jigsaw mount
This was my attempt to make that router table with vacuum chamber, as built into little table saw.
You can probably see where I got a crack that started on the front edge, because it's just pegboard on top (there's bracing and a structure inside, made from MDF - see the chamber poking out below). Besides that, it works. That vacuum hose on the floor hooks up to a port on the bottom.
But you can see on my garage full size table saw, I have a lot more room I could build one.
Plus I could either plug in my shop vac up there, or not even worry about dust since I could be in my driveway.
Maybe in spring I'll think about it again.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3b482deb51.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cf6848cc32.jpg

Re: Table top jigsaw mount
That's pretty cool! It sucks when space is tight... My dream is to someday have a large shop that is separate from the house and garage. This dream would never happen while living near the beach in SoCal... :(

You could use bearings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFnb...nel=JSK-koubou
Re: Table top jigsaw mount
I skipped ahead -
I didn't catch if the whole arm was vertically adjustable on that, but would be doable with slotted holes and thumb nuts with washers under them.
Looks like you could leave yourself the ability to cut material at least an inch thick with a standard blade - I wonder if there's like a 4" (or longer) blade that might allow you to cut something thick like a 2x4.
I bet there is.

Yes. And yes. Both are shown in the video.
