Notloudenuf's Garage Project
I have decided to build a free standing garage/shop behind my house. Who knows what all it will wind up being but for now woodworking and possibly car storage is what it is now.
First the plans (drawn by me)

Framing has been purchased and I will have it delivered as needed.

Major sweet ! [3 yr architectual drafting] in 70`s . The last time Matt and I went to a day event/seminar on concrete, they were adding fibers to the pour. They believed this would stop the cracks from occuring.

Dang, that's gonna be nice!

Looking good, but do have a question. Why did you not pour whole slab?

I'm matching the brick foundation of my house. So the brick are on the footer and then the slab is poured back to the bricks.

Re: Notloudenuf's Garage Project
ah. All the slabs I've worked off of (framing) incorporated a "brick ledge" for that purpose

I may regret this way but its in the ground and everything is on order so I'm sticking with it.

Re: Notloudenuf's Garage Project
All the stuff I don't need yet is showing up.
Trusses arrived yesterday.

The garage door company called and wanted to deliver the door tomorrow. I asked them to hold off until next week. Maybe I can push them back some more when they call back.

Re: Notloudenuf's Garage Project
Thanks. They did do a good job.
It has rained a lot this week and my yard is a sponge. So no concrete yet.
Hopefully it will dry out this weekend (it rained again this morning) and concrete man can come Monday or Tuesday to pour.

Moist curing during hydration of slab floor.
In Michigan minimizing cracks even includes adding fibers to the mixture before the pour.

Is the shed going away, or is there room to drive between the two?

When Ken-doll gets an erection it takes weeks with outside help! :hahaha:

My erection is nothing to joke about?
The shed is going away. My father-in-law has dibs on it right now.

The weather has been shit when I've had time to work on the building so not much progress this week.
My neighbor came and helped me get the tyvek house wrap on there last night so I am much more weatherproof now.
The shingles and siding are being delivered as I type this.
I have GOT to build my lean-to shelter and get the roofer here to put shingles on. A 10/12 pitch is super scary!
Supposed to rain tonight so I'm making a materials run for some odds and ends. Don't ya'll want to come help?

Re: Notloudenuf's Garage Project
I took the day off of work to do some construction.
Last night I set the posts for the shelter.

Had a buddy that could come help me today. Before he got there I cut off the posts and set the beam.

Then we started making rafters

Ran out of time but got about half of the sheeting on there.
The roofer is coming tomorrow morning, so I got to get the rest of the sheeting up in a hurry.

I was successful

The roofers came and kicked ass. worked from about 9 and were gone by 12:45

I also cleaned up around the site and took back some lumber I didn't need. Here's a beauty shot

The next step is siding. I'm watching youtube videos on how to install it properly. Hope to get started tomorrow or Monday.

Re: Notloudenuf's Garage Project
Doing some more work as time and weather allows.
I have started on the siding and I am definitely a novice. Don't look too close cause it will show.
The ends of this building are tall. I don't like being up on bouncy ladders to screw with this stuff.
In the future my projects will be lower to the ground.

Got the garage door in the hole (no upper rail to open the door) and the walkthrough door installed with a keyed lock and deadbolt. We are going on vacation next week and I wanted to be sure it was at least secure before we left.

Thanks! The long term goal is to add a mini-split unit to keep everything cool.
I gotta say the Solarbord works wonders at keeping the heat out. You can open the door and its at least 10 degrees cooler inside the garage than the outside air temp.

That's 3 sides completed. Gotta make a Lowe's run for some misc odds and ends to get started on the garage door side. Maybe I can have all of the siding up by the end of this weekend.
