Of course. And if everyone is killed, liberty is useless. Maybe, and this might be a stretch, but maybe the provisions of the Patriot Act stopped Al Qaeda from acquiring a nuclear device and biological weapons. That was after all their main objective. Maybe you and I are alive today because of the patriot act. In any case, most of the statutes of the patriot act have been repealed. You won't find me cheerleading for more gov't control of peoples lives or taking away our individual liberties but I realize the gov't has to do drastic things sometimes to protect the country.

Pretty much every mainstream media outlet out there exists under a for-profit corporation. A corporation's first duty is to earn a profit for its stakeholders...not seek the truth. Media outlets know what sells. And it ain't kitten videos.
I believe democracy demands a free press, but news is kinda like food. You need a certain amount of it, but too much is a bad thing. And a balanced, varied diet is the best practice.

While I appreciate your considered response, I will leave you to your premise and utilitarian rationalization.

We need corporate mainstream media "news" like we need a hole in our head.

So far if we recap what you've been saying, it seems your message is: If Republicans strip rights in the name of safety it's good. If Democrats strip rights in the name of safety it's bad. Example:
Patriot Act=good. Stripped people of rights, but was guaranteed to save people's lives, so it's okay.
Repeal 2nd Amendment=bad. It will strip people of rights, but there's no chance in hell it could save anybody's life, so 100% fuck no.
I didn't/don't support either. Again, once you start opening that door, it's hard to shut.

I don't think you're capable of logic or intellect. I said I never considered the patriot act one way or another at the time. I knew I was going to war, leaving my family, not knowing where the hell I was going or for how long or if I would even see my family again. I then said it likely achieved some good things. Politicians make policy. We don't agree with everything they do and anything they pass can be challenged and repealed. That's what voting is for. As far as hypotheticals, I believe you brought them up first. If you were in the military or a police officer and was told to kill someone if say you were attacked or someone/people were trying to blow up your base or kill your friends would you say nah we'll just take our chances. Maybe we'll get lucky. Killing someone I'm sure is not something any of us would normally do. Like I said, I've had to give up some rights before and do things I wouldn't normally do for "the greater good". And so have you.

Why? If it's because I don't agree with you 100% on everything, that seems a bit immature.

It likely did achieve some good things, I didn't say that it didn't. I said it infringed on rights. Repealing the 2nd Amendment could do some good things, but I'm against it because it infringes on rights. I don't trust that we could let it get repealed and then get it back at a later date.

Sure, politicians make policy. Some people take oaths claiming that they'll defend the Constitution of the United States. If those people allow politicians to make policies that contradict the Constitution, are they upholding their oath?
You can play your veteran card and say that I don't understand because I'm not one if you want, but I was raised by a veteran and he thinks you're full of shit.

Ahhh, I see where you get your thinking then. You can't compare repealing a constitutional amendment with the patriot act. And on your 2nd question, the answer is yes but you probably don't understand that either and never will.

While that may be true, they're 2nd cousins.

That seems to be your favorite go to answer. Cool...
You seem like the type of guy that would criticize Ruth Bader Ginsburg because she didn't believe in upholding the Constitution to the letter, but at the same time, you seem to believe there's wiggle room if it suits you.

It's clear you've never taken an oath and don't understand them. Justice Ginsburg was a activist judge. Plain and simple.
