Re: Bang for the buck TOWER speakers
My encounters with KEF have been somewhat positive. Really neutral from what I remember like a good set of Dyns maybe? They didn't really have any personality traits if memory serves but I think that's what I'm wanting at this point in time. Just a good overall reference sound.

Oh my Lord what did I just do?

My brain was melting from reading so many reviews and I knew I wanted a true tower for the bigger sound they give. And in my heart I knew I wanted to crack open a virgin pair of speakers. Whether you agree with my choice or not I'm the one that's taking the leap of faith. I think they'll be just fine in here on 160 watts at piece at 6 ohms. I read enough reviews that jived with each other to feel confident they have will have a tonal signature that pleases me. With a sub in due time I should be golden.

The guy selling the KEF speakers I mentioned also has a pair of Zu Omen Dirty Weekends that interested me until I researched their sonic characteristics in depth. Wish I coulda experienced those at his house to be honest.

Sometimes...it's just great to be done with it :) I'd be curious how they would sound compared to my Amiga, as in the end I spent a little more than that per tower, when you factor in floor spikes and vinyl wrap.

Man no kidding on being done with it. The Elac Debut seems to be one of the true bang for the buck lines of speakers with glowing reviews to back it up. What sold me on them was an independent reviewer saying they were forgiving with digital recordings and had strong male vocals. ALL my stuff is in digital format and on flash drives. LOVE how easy it is to navigate flash drives with the Denon;)Also REALLY wanted a dedicated midrange because just about every system I've heard (car and home) that's truly impressed me had a dedicated midrange. The Elac 5.2 and 6.2 both have one of those three matching woofers as a midrange only with the other two playing midbass duty. I know there are lots of GREAT speakers that are 2-way with woofer and tweeter but I bet most of those great designs also have better driver and crossover design driving the price way up. On the forgiving comment I just didn't want to be disappointed because something was too revealing causing my sketchy non-audiophile music to sound like butt. Why have true audiophile grade stuff if you don't plan on feeding it true audiophile material?
I do plan on going diy with the sub because I have a sub here that I knew from day one belonged in a good home setup and just about every powered sub I've seen in my price range doesn't really look that impressive. Would rather get a big dsp plate amp and put this IDQ12v4 in a big sealed box.

A downfiring design with a plate amp similar to above but made larger for a 12" sub.

Buyout priced !

4 of these ( feet ) and an 8 ft x 4 ft sheet of wood .
Cut 6 pieces , cut a mounting hole and plate amp mounting hole , get a terminal cup , done !
Re: Bang for the buck TOWER speakers
If I'm gonna buy an amp for the subwoofer I'm gonna do it right. Acoustical phasing can be a bitch that only GOOD processing can fix. Funny thing is the big spending audiophiles have an aversion to dsp from what I've seen. They'd rather tune their system with different amps and cables because dsp wrecks more than it fixes:lmao:Yes I know phase can be effected with dsp if you don't know what you're doing or what to listen for.

And the sub I plan on using I already own and will be putting in a properly sized sealed box and putting 600rms on it at 8 ohms. And will be forward firing it.
